Immobilizer System Function Test

NOTE: On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, engine start time will be slightly longer than on vehicles without immobilizer system.
CAUTION: When substituting a known-good PCM, immobilizer code must be rewritten to replacement PCM using Honda PGM tester, or engine will not start.
  1. Ensure transmission selector is in Park position and brake pedal is depressed. Insert key into ignition switch and turn to START position. System indicator light should illuminate for 2 seconds and go out. Engine should start.
  2. If system indicator light begins to flash after 2 seconds or engine does not start, remove key and repeat starting procedure. If engine still does not start, check immobilizer control unit input and immobilizer receiver and transponder (key). See IMMOBILIZER CONTROL UNIT INPUT . See IMMOBILIZER RECEIVER & TRANSPONDER (KEY)  under COMPONENT TESTS.
  3. If immobilizer control unit input, immobilizer receiver, and transponder (key) are okay, check PCM. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If PCM is okay, replace immobilizer control unit, master key and learning key. Reprogram PCM using Honda PGM Tester and immobilizer program card according to manufacturer's instructions. If PCM is faulty, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck MIL operation. If MIL operates properly, replace PCM.
