Diagnostic Test: Navi System Link

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Acura TL and 2007 Acura TL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • Check the vehicle battery condition first.
  • The navigation system uses the center speaker to communicate the voice prompts. When the center speaker is inoperative, there is little difference in the audio system sound quality or volume, but the navigation system is mute.
  • Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
  • Before troubleshooting, write down the audio presets, and get the audio and navigation system anti-theft codes.
  • After troubleshooting, enter the audio and navigation system anti-theft codes, and the audio presets.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Press the display unit SET-UP button.
  3. Check the volume and voice feedback setting for the navigation system in set-up.

    Are the volume and/or voice feedback setting set to OFF? 

    YES  -Set the feedback to ON and select an audible volume level.

    NO  -Go to step 4.

  4. Check the audio operation.

    Can you hear the audio? 

    YES  -Go to step 5.

    NO  -Troubleshoot the audio system.

  5. Do the speaker test (see SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION ) to check if the center speaker is operative.

    Is the center speaker operative? 

    YES  -Go to step 6.

    NO  -Do the audio system sound is weak or distorted (see AUDIO SYSTEM SOUND IS WEAK OR DISTORTED (DISPLAY IS NORMAL) ), or no sound is heard from speaker (see NO SOUND IS HEARD FROM SPEAKER(S) (DISPLAY IS NORMAL) ).

    NOTE: Another speaker or speaker wire in the audio system could have a problem resulting in no output from the center speaker.
  6. Go into the Diagnostic mode and use the "Navi System Link" diagnostic (see NAVI SYSTEM LINK  ) to check the radio.

    Is the "Radio" icon red? 

    YES  -Troubleshoot the audio system.

    NO  -Go to step 6.

  7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  8. Remove the audio-HVAC display module assembly (see AUDIO-HVAC DISPLAY MODULE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ), and disconnect audio unit connector A (20P).
    NOTE: Eject all the discs before removing the audio unit to prevent the CD/DVD player's load mechanism.
  9. Disconnect navigation unit connector B (14P).
  10. Check for continuity between body ground and navigation unit connector B (14P) terminals No. 5, No. 12 individually.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Short to body ground in the wire(s) between the navigation unit and audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO  -Go to step 11.

  11. Check for continuity between navigation unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 11 and terminals No. 5 and No. 12 individually.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Short in the wire(s) between the navigation unit and audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO  -Go to step 12.

  12. Check for continuity between navigation unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 5 and the audio unit connector A (20P) terminal No. 13.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Go to step 13.

    NO  -Open in the wire between the navigation unit and audio unit. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the audio and navigation units. If a poor connection or loose terminal is found, replace the affected shielded harness.

  13. Check for continuity between navigation unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 12 and the audio unit connector A (20P) terminal No. 12.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Go to step 14.

    NO  -There is an open in the circuit between the navigation unit and the audio unit. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the audio and navigation units. If a poor connection or loose terminal is found, replace the affected shielded harness.

  14. Substitute a known-good navigation unit, and recheck.

    Is the system OK? 

    YES  -Replace the navigation unit (see NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION  ).

    NO  -Replace the audio unit (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
