USB device does not function

NOTE:
  • Check the vehicle battery condition first.
  • Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
  • Make sure you have the client's USB device to use for testing.
  • Some music players (connected through the USB port) may not work with all models.
  • Make sure that the music player connected to the USB port works properly.
  • The USB memory used for testing should conform to the USB mass storage class standard.
  • The USB function is not compatible with a USB memory of 128 MB or below.
  • The music must be saved to the player as WMA (Windows Media Audio) files or MP3. MP3 files saved in a variable bit rate are not compatible.
  1. Connect a known-good music player to the USB port.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  3. Press the AUX button, and check if it changes to USB mode.

    Does it change to the USB mode? 

    YES  -Go to step 4.

    NO  -Go to step  13.

  4. Check that the client's USB memory device for inspection functions properly when connected to a known-good vehicle.

    Is the system normal? 

    YES  -Go to step 5.

    NO  -Check that there is no dirt or damage in the USB port. If the USB port is OK, the music player is either defective or incompatible.

  5. Check if NO DATA appears when the music player is connected to the USB port.

    Does NO DATA appear? 

    YES  -Go to step 6.

    NO  -Go to step  9.

  6. Check the connectors at USB adapter unit connector B (5P) and the USB adapter cable and the USB jack.

    Are the connectors and terminals connected properly? 

    YES  -Go to step 7.

    NO  -Repair the connection, and recheck.

  7. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector B (5P).
  8. Check for continuity between USB adapter unit connector B (5P), and the USB jack according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Replace the USB adapter unit (see USB ADAPTER UNIT REPLACEMENT ) or the USB jack (see USB ADAPTER UNIT REPLACEMENT ).

    NO  -Repair open in the wires between the USB adapter unit and the USB jack.

  9. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (AM, FM, XM, and CD).

    Is the sound normal? 

    YES  -Go to step 10.

    NO  -Go to no Sound is heard from the speaker(s) (see NO SOUND IS HEARD FROM THE SPEAKER(S) (DISPLAY IS NORMAL) ).

  10. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  11. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P).
  12. Check for continuity between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Replace the USB adapter unit (see USB ADAPTER UNIT REPLACEMENT ).

    NO  -Repair open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter connector and the audio unit connector.

  13. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  14. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P).
  15. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  16. Measure the voltage between USB adapter unit connector Ad 4P) terminals No. 1 and No. 11.

    Is there battery voltage? 

    YES  -Go to step 17.

    NO  -Go to step  28.

  17. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  18. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P), navigation display unit 20P connector, HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector, AcuraLink control unit connector A (32P), and XM receiver unit connector A (14P).
  19. Check for continuity between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) and the navigation display unit 20P connector according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Go to step 20.

    NO  -There is an open or short in the wire(s) between the USB adapter unit and the navigation display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

  20. Check for continuity between body ground and USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminals No. 9 and No. 10 individually.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Repair short in the wire(s) between USB adapter connector A (14P) and body ground.

    NO  -Go to step 21.

  21. Check for continuity between terminals of USB adapter unit connector A (14P) according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -There is a short in the wire(s) between the USB adapter unit and the navigation display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO  -Go to step 22.

  22. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  23. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P), and the navigation display unit 20P connector.
  24. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (14P) and the navigation display unit 20P connector according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Go to step 25.

    NO  -There is an open or short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the navigation display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

  25. Check for continuity between body ground and audio unit connector C (14P) terminals No. 9 and No. 10 individually.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Repair short in the wire(s) between audio unit connector C (14P) and body ground.

    NO  -Go to step 26.

  26. Check for continuity between terminals of audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -There is a short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and navigation display unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

    NO  -Go to step 27.

  27. Turn on the audio unit, and check for sound in each mode (AM, FM, XM, and CD).

    Is the sound normal? 

    YES  -Replace the USB adapter unit (see USB ADAPTER UNIT REPLACEMENT ).

    NO  -Replace the audio unit (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).

  28. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  29. Disconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P) and the audio unit connector C (14P) [and XM receiver connector A (14P)].

    [] : With XM receiver

  30. Check for continuity between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector C (14P) according to the table.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  -Go to step 31.

    NO  -Repair open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit.

  31. Reconnect audio unit connector C (14P).
  32. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  33. Measure the voltage between body ground and USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually.

    Is there battery voltage? 

    YES  -Go to step 34.

    NO  -There is a open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit.

  34. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  35. Reconnect USB adapter unit connector A (14P).
  36. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  37. Measure the voltage between USB adapter unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 11 and body ground.

Is there less than 0.1 V? 

YES  -Check pin fit and connection substitute a known-good audio unit (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit (see AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ). If the symptom is still present, substitute a known-good USB adapter unit (see USB ADAPTER UNIT REPLACEMENT ), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original USB adapter unit (see USB ADAPTER UNIT REPLACEMENT ).

NO  -Repair open in the wire between the USB adapter unit and the audio unit.
