Wipers/Washers (MICU, Rear MICU, and Relay Control Module) Input Test (2016)

MICU 

NOTE: 

1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

2. Disconnect driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connectors F, G, H, and P - Refer to: Driver's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation .

.NOTE:  All connector views are wire side of female terminals.

3. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.

4. With the connectors still disconnected, do the following input tests:

Wiper/washer switch (intermittent dwell timer) turned Measure the resistance between terminals P4 and P3:
The resistance should vary from about 0 to 1 kΩ.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
  • A short to ground in the wire

5. Reconnect the connectors to the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.

6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, and do the following input tests:

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
H1 BLK Under all conditions Check for continuity to ground:
There should be continuity.
  • Poor ground (G502)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
G6 BLK In all power modes Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Poor ground (G506)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
P2 BRN In all power modes Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Poor ground (G501)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
G14 LT GRN Shift position/mode in P Check for continuity to ground:
There should be continuity.
  • Faulty TCM
  • Faulty SBW shifter control module
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Shift position/mode in any position other than P Check for continuity to ground:
There should be no continuity.
  • Faulty SBW shifter control module
  • Faulty TCM
  • A short to ground in the wire
F7 *2 PUR Brake pedal pressed Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. B8 (20 A) and No. B2-6 (30 A) fuses in the main under-hood fuse/relay box
  • Faulty brake pedal position switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Brake pedal released Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be no voltage.
  • Faulty brake pedal position switch
  • A short to power in the wire
F7 *3 PUR Brake pedal pressed Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. B8 (10 A) fuse in the main under-hood fuse/relay box
  • Faulty DC-DC converter
  • Faulty brake pedal position switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Brake pedal released Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be no voltage.
  • Faulty brake pedal position switch
  • A short to power in the wire

*1: With headlight washer*2: Without auto idle stop system*3: With auto idle stop system

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
P14 *1 BLU Headlight washer switch ON Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty headlight washer switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Headlight washer switch OFF Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be about 5 V.
  • Faulty headlight washer switch
  • A short to ground in the wire

Wiper switch (INT or LO) ON Measure the voltage between terminals P10 and P3:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Wiper switch OFF Measure the voltage between terminals P10 and P3:
There should be about 5 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • A short to ground in the wire

Wiper switch (LO or HI) ON Measure the voltage between terminals P16 and P3:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Wiper switch OFF Measure the voltage between terminals P16 and P3:
There should be about 5 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • A short to ground in the wire

Wiper switch (MIST) ON Measure the voltage between terminals P9 and P3:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Wiper switch OFF Measure the voltage between terminals P9 and P3:
There should be about 5 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • A short to ground in the wire

Washer switch ON Measure the voltage between terminals P8 and P3:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Washer switch OFF Measure the voltage between terminals P8 and P3:
There should be about 5 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • A short to ground in the wire

Rear window wiper/washer switch (INT) ON Measure the voltage between terminals P7 and P3:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Rear window wiper/washer switch (INT) OFF Measure the voltage between terminals P7 and P3:
There should be about 5 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • A short to ground in the wire

  • Faulty wiper/washer switch

There should be about 5 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire

Rear window wiper/washer switch (WASH) ON Measure the voltage between terminals P5 and P3:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Rear window wiper/washer switch (WASH) OFF Measure the voltage between terminals P5 and P3:
There should be about 5 V.
  • Faulty wiper/washer switch
  • A short to ground in the wire

*1: With headlight washer

*2: Without auto idle stop system

*3: With auto idle stop system

Rear MICU 

7. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

8. Disconnect rear fuse/relay box connectors A and B

.NOTE:  All connector views are wire side of female terminals.

9. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.

10. With the connectors still disconnected, do the following input tests:

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
A35 LT BLU Under all conditions Connect battery power to terminal A35:
The rear window wiper motor should run.
  • Poor ground (G603)
  • Faulty rear window wiper motor
  • An open or high resistance in the wire

11. Reconnect the connectors to the rear fuse/relay box, and do the following input tests:

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
B29 GRY Vehicle ON mode Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. D10 (15 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box
  • Faulty driver's under-dash fuse/relay box
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
B16 BLK/WHT In all power modes Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Poor ground (G605)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
A1 BLK/WHT In all power modes Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Poor ground (G605)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
B26 BLK In all power modes Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Poor ground (G606)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
A29 BLK Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Poor ground (G606)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire

Relay Control Module 

12. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

13. Disconnect relay control module connectors B, D and E

.NOTE:  All connector views are shown from the wire side of the female terminals.

14. Inspect the connectors and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact:

15. Reconnect the connectors to the relay control module, do the following input tests:

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
B1 BLK In all power modes Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Poor ground (G204)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
D12 BLK In all power modes Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Poor ground (G204)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
E4 LT GRN Vehicle ON mode Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. C31 (30 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box
  • Faulty wiper motor relay
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
D2 LT BLU Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground:
There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. C4 (15 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box
  • An open or high resistance in the wire

16. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

17. Disconnect the connectors from the relay control module, and do the following input tests:

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired results not obtained
B2 * LT GRN Under all conditions Connect to ground with a jumper wire:
The headlight washer motor should run.
  • Blown No. B3-8 (30 A) fuse in the main under-hood fuse/relay box
  • Faulty headlight washer relay
  • Faulty headlight washer motor
  • Poor ground (G204) or an open in the ground wire
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
D3 GRN Under all conditions Connect terminals D3 and D2 with a jumper wire:
The windshield washer motor should run.
  • Faulty windshield washer motor
  • Poor ground (G204) or an open in the ground wire
  • An open or high resistance in the wire

*: With headlight washer

18. If multiple failures are found on more than one control unit, replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box - Refer to: Driver's Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation and/or rear fuse/relay box (includes the MICU).

If input failures are related to a particular control unit, replace the control unit.
