8. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact:

9. With the connector still disconnected, do the following input tests:

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
8 BLU Disconnect the audio remote/HFL-navigation voice control switch 16P connector (with navigation) or the audio remote/HFL switch 16P connector (without navigation) Check for continuity between terminal No. 8, and audio remote/HFL-navigation voice control switch 16P connector (with navigation) or audio remote/HFL switch 16P connector (without navigation) terminal No. 15: There should be continuity. An open in the LIN (METER) wire
Check for continuity to ground: There should be no continuity. A short to ground in the LIN (METER) wire
7 GRN Disconnect the steering heater 4P connector, Check for continuity between terminal No. 7 and steering heater 4P connector terminal No. 4: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire

10. Reconnect the connector, and do the following input tests:

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
2 WHT Vehicle ON mode Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. E11 (20 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box
  • Faulty heated steering wheel relay
  • Faulty cable reel
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
12 BLK In all power modes Measure the voltage to ground: There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty audio remote/HFL-navigation voice control switch (with navigation) or audio remote/HFL switch (without navigation)
  • Faulty cable reel
  • Poor ground (G501)
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
1 RED Disconnect the steering heater 4P connector, vehicle ON mode, and heated steering switch ON Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage. A short to ground in the wire
6 WHT Disconnect the steering heater 4P connector, vehicle ON mode, and heated steering switch ON Measure the voltage to ground: There should be 5 V. A short to ground in the wire
Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
5-14 LT BLU-PNK Vehicle ON mode, and heated steering wheel button pressed Measure the voltage between terminals No. 5 and No. 14: There should be less than 0.2 V.
  • Faulty heated steering wheel switch
  • An open or high resistance in the wire
Vehicle ON mode, and heated steering wheel button released Measure the voltage between terminals No. 5 and No. 14: There should be battery voltage.
  • Faulty heated steering wheel switch
  • A short to ground in the wire
10 PUR Vehicle ON mode Connect to ground with a jumper wire: The heated steering wheel switch indicator should come on.
  • Faulty heated steering wheel switch
  • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
