Fuel Line Inspection: Inspection
NOTICE:
Refer to the Fuel and Emissions Systems Service Precautions before doing the procedure.
- Fuel Line - Inspect 1
Procedure/Specifications
1. Check the fuel system lines and hoses for damage, leaks, and deterioration. (Figure 1, 2, 3, and 4)

Figure 4 (Mexico Models) (3.0 L Engine)
2. Make sure that the fuel system lines and hoses do not interfere with the surrounding parts. (Figure 1, 2, 3, and 4)
Result
- If it is abnormal, repair or replace parts as needed.
- Fuel Line - Inspect 2
Procedure/Specifications
- Check all clamps, and make sure they are properly positioned and tightened.
Specifications (Figure 1, 2, 3, and 4)
Object Specification Clamps Clamps are in position of its specified range. Clamps are mounted so that it does not run over the bulge. Hose Ends Marks (a) on the hoses and pipes are aligned. There should be no clearance between the hoses and the pipes. Specifications (Figure 1, 2, 3, and 4)

Result
- If it is abnormal, install the clamps to the proper position or replace any damaged parts.
- Fuel Leak - Check (Low Pressure Side)
Procedure/Specifications
- Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the low pressure fuel line will be pressurized. Repeat this two or three times, then check for fuel leakage.
NOTICE:
If the fuel line is leaking, turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode immediately.

- Fuel Leak - Check (High Pressure Side)
Procedure/Specifications
1. Move the throttle body - Refer to: Intake Manifold Area(3.0L Engine) or Intake Manifold Area(2.0L Engine) .
NOTICE:
Do not disconnect the water bypass hoses, and do not bend them excessively.
2. Remove the intake manifold - Refer to: Intake Manifold Area(3.0L Engine) or Intake Manifold Area(2.0L Engine) .
3. Apply commercially available Met-L-Chek D-70 Developer to the joint of the injectors (a), the fuel rail (b), and the high pressure fuel pump (c). Set the probe of the leak detector (Snap-on Combustible Gas Leak Detector) on the joint. (Figure 1 and 2)

4. Reinstall the removed parts with the original gaskets that were used.
5. Check for fuel leakage (low pressure side).
- Refer to the "Fuel Leak - Check (Low Pressure Side)".
6. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 4, 000 rpm for 1 minute, and stop the engine.
NOTICE:
If the fuel line is leaking, stop the engine immediately, and turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
7. Move the throttle body - Refer to: Intake Manifold Area(3.0L Engine) or Intake Manifold Area(2.0L Engine) .
NOTICE:
Do not disconnect the water bypass hoses, and do not bend them excessively.
8. Remove the intake manifold - Refer to: Intake Manifold Area(3.0L Engine) or Intake Manifold Area(2.0L Engine) .
9. Check for fuel leakage at the joint of the injectors, the fuel rail, and the high pressure fuel pump.
