Fuel Pressure Relieving: Procedure
NOTICE:
- Refer to the Fuel and Emissions Systems Service Precautions before doing the procedure.
- Before disconnecting fuel lines or hoses, relieve pressure from the system by disabling the fuel pump and disconnecting the fuel line/quick connect fitting in the engine compartment.
With HDS

Preconditions
Figure 1
Procedure/Specifications
1. Remove the emergency fuel funnel (a). (Figure 1)
Figure 2
2. Insert the emergency fuel funnel (b) into the fuel filler neck to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank. (Figure 2)3. Stop the fuel pump.
- Select the following menu buttons on the HDS screen in sequence.
-
- PGM-FI (System Selection Menu)
- Function Test
- FUEL PUMP OFF
4. Start the engine, and let it idle until it stalls.
NOTICE:
- Do not allow the engine to idle above 1, 000 rpm or the PCM will continue to operate the fuel pump.
- A Pending or Confirmed DTC may be set during this procedure. Check for DTCs, and clear them as needed.
5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
After Relieving
NOTE: Disconnect the 12 volt battery terminal after relieving the fuel pressure to reduce the risk of a fire caused by sparks.Without HDS
