Steering Angle Neutral Position Learning: Procedure

How to use this service information .

NOTICE: 

• If the steering angle neutral position is cleared, do the steering angle neutral position learning procedure.
• The steering angle neutral position is cleared whenever you do any of these actions:
• • -

    12 volt battery terminal is disconnected from the 12 volt battery.

  • -

    The power supply voltage for the steering gearbox is decreased.

  • -

    EPS motor/control unit replacement, removal, or installation.

  • -

    When a failure that cannot calculate the steering angle occurs in the EPS system.

Learning method with the HDS 

1. Steering Angle Neutral Position - Learn

   Preconditions 

   • Vehicle on Level Ground
   • Front Wheels Positioned Straight Ahead
   • HDS Connected

   Procedure 

   • Do the VSA sensor neutral position memorization - Refer to: VSA Modulator-Control Unit Update or VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization .
     NOTE:

     When the VSA sensor neutral position memorization is performed, the current position is cleared and overwritten.

   Learning method without the HDS 

2. Steering Angle Neutral Position - Learn

   Procedure 

   • Drive the vehicle in a straight line at speeds of 10 mph (15 km/h).
   NOTE:

   • When the steering angle neutral position learning is completed, the indicators that was lighted go off.
   • The learning will complete after driving in a straight line for about 10 seconds.
   • In the following cases, learning of the steering angle neutral position may not be completed.
   • • -

       Driving on a non straight line.

     • -

       When driving on gravel roads, extremely rough roads, or on slippery roads such as snow or ice.

     • -

       Driving under 10 mph (15 km/h) or less.

     • -

       When driving on a road that leaned left and right.

     • -

       Rapid acceleration and deceleration.

   • If the learning does not complete, check the EPS system .
