  1. A.-

    Preconditions 

    Key Information 

    Do the following before starting your work.

    Remove: 

    Disconnect: 

    • Steering Joint
      NOTE:

      Do not turn the steering wheel while disconnecting the steering joint.

      NOTE:  If the center guide is in place, discard it.

    • Front Suspension Area
      1. -

        Front Stabilizer Link (Front Stabilizer Bar Side)

      2. -

        Damper Fork (Lower Arm Side)

      3. -

        Lower Arm Ball Joint

    Sub-Procedure 

    Removal 

    1. Refer to the figure 1.

    NOTE:

    Be careful not to damage the ball joint boots when installing the ball joint remover . (Figure 1)

    3. Attach the subframe adapter to the front subframe by looping the belt (a) over the front of the front subframe, then secure the belt with its stop (b), and tighten the wing nut (c). (Figure 3)

    4. Raise a transmission jack and line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the transmission jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts. (Figure 3)

    Installation 

    1. Do the following procedure while using the subframe alignment pin.

    3 Tighten All Bolts -> ->

    Removal 

    1. Lift and support the engine/transmission with a floor jack (a) and a wood block (b). (Figure 1)

    Installation 

    1. Align the cutout portion (a) with the lug portion (b). (Figure 1)

    2. Turn the lip (d) of the pinion shaft grommet. (Figure 1)

    3. Pick up the tabs (e) of the pinion shaft grommet, and turn up the lip of the pinion shaft grommet securely in place. (Figure 2)

    NOTE:  For the removal and installation procedure, refer to Steering Gearbox Removal and Installation - Refer to: Steering Gearbox Removal and Installation(2.0L Engine) or Steering Linkage and Gearbox Inspection and the sub procedure below.

    Removal 

    NOTE:

    Using clean solvent and a brush, wash any oil and dirt off the end of the steering gearbox, blow dry with compressed air.

    • Refer to the figure 1.

    Installation

    Tightening Procedure (Figure 3) 

    Step Operation Object Specification
    1 Temporarily Tighten All Bolts -
    2 Tighten All Bolts -> -> -> -> ->

    After Installation 

    • 12 Volt Battery Terminal Reconnect
    • Check these items:
      • With the front wheels straight ahead, make sure the steering wheel is centered and the turning revolutions from center to full lock (left and right) is equal. If not, check the installation of the steering wheel and the engagement of the joint/pinion shaft splines.
      • With the tires raised off the ground, check for noise and abnormality by turning the steering wheel fully to the right and left several times.
      • Check the power steering assist .
      • Check that the EPS indicator does not come on.
    • Wheel Alignment Check
    • VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization - Refer to: VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization
