Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON THE (W52) FRONT WIPER SWITCH MUX CIRCUIT
- CHECK THE BCM FOR PROPER OPERATION
- Turn the ignition off.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit at the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Does the scan tool display DTC: B1052-11-COLUMN SWITCH MODULE FRONT WIPER COMMANDS-CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND as active?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK THE (Z406) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR CONTINUITY TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (Z406) Ground circuit at the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (Z406) Ground circuit?
Yes
- Replace the Front Wiper Switch in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SWITCH, MULTIFUNCTION, RIGHT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE (Z406) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Disconnect the BCM C8/H harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (Z406) Ground circuit between the Front Wiper Switch harness connector and BCM C8/H harness connector - terminal 19.
Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the open or high resistance in the (Z406) Ground circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 8
- CHECK THE (W52) FRONT WIPER SWITCH MUX CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the BCM C8/H harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit between the Front Wiper Switch harness connector and BCM C8/H harness connector - terminal 58.
Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the open or high resistance in the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 8
- CHECK THE (W52) FRONT WIPER SWITCH MUX CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT IN THE HARNESS CONNECTOR
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the BCM C8/H harness connector.
- Check for continuity between the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit and all other circuits on the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.
- Check for continuity between the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit and all other circuits on the BCM C8/H harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit and any other circuit(s)?
Yes
- Repair the short between the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit and the circuit that has continuity.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Inspect the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit, between the Front Wiper Switch and the BCM C8/H harness connector, for a short to voltage. If no problems are found, Go To 8
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all BCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Connect all BCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Body Control Module (BCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, BODY CONTROL (BCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
