Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    1. With the scan tool, read Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

  2. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON THE (W52) FRONT WIPER SWITCH MUX CIRCUIT
    1. Turn the Front Wipers off.
    2. Turn the ignition off.
    3. Disconnect the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. Measure the voltage on the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit at the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes

      • Go To  7

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE BCM FOR PROPER OPERATION
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit at the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

Does the scan tool display DTC: B1052-11-COLUMN SWITCH MODULE FRONT WIPER COMMANDS-CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND as active?

      Yes

      • Go To  4

      No

      • Go To  6
  4. CHECK THE (Z406) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR CONTINUITY TO GROUND
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Check for continuity between ground and the (Z406) Ground circuit at the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.

Is there continuity between ground and the (Z406) Ground circuit?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE (Z406) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Disconnect the BCM C8/H harness connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (Z406) Ground circuit between the Front Wiper Switch harness connector and BCM C8/H harness connector - terminal 19.

Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Repair the open or high resistance in the (Z406) Ground circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  8
  6. CHECK THE (W52) FRONT WIPER SWITCH MUX CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the BCM C8/H harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit between the Front Wiper Switch harness connector and BCM C8/H harness connector - terminal 58.

Is the resistance above 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Repair the open or high resistance in the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  8
  7. CHECK THE (W52) FRONT WIPER SWITCH MUX CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT IN THE HARNESS CONNECTOR
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the BCM C8/H harness connector.
    3. Check for continuity between the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit and all other circuits on the Front Wiper Switch harness connector.
    4. Check for continuity between the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit and all other circuits on the BCM C8/H harness connector.

Is there continuity between the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit and any other circuit(s)?

      Yes

      • Repair the short between the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit and the circuit that has continuity.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Inspect the (W52) Front Wiper Switch MUX circuit, between the Front Wiper Switch and the BCM C8/H harness connector, for a short to voltage. If no problems are found, Go To  8
  8. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
    1. Disconnect all BCM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
