SUBJECT

Flash: Body Control Module (BCM) Diagnostic and System Updates

OVERVIEW

This bulletin involves reprogramming the BCM with the latest available software.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: North America.
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before **April 05, 2018 (MDH 0405XX).**

SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Customers may experience the following:

DIAGNOSIS

Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH 2) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in DealerCONNECT/Service Library, verify all related systems are functioning as designed. If any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) or symptom/conditions, other than the ones listed above are present, record the issues on the repair order and repair as necessary, before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.

NOTE: This bulletin supersedes Service Bulletin 08-077-18 REV. B, dated September 11, 2018, whic should be removed from your files. All revisions are highlighted with **asterisks** and include build date, symptom/condition and LOP.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

CAUTION: If the ETM has been replaced with a Version 2.5, it will require updating and/or be at a minimum software level of A85 (Refer to all applicable published service bulletins for detailed repair procedures and labor times regarding updating the ETM). After the ETM replacement and software update to a minimum level of A85, all of the following modules MUST be updated:
  • Body Control Module (BCM)
  • Amplifier (AMP)
  • Antilock Brake System (ABS)
  • Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
  • Park Assist Module (PAM)
  • Left Blind Spot Sensor (LBSS)/Right Blind Spot Sensor (RBSS)

Failure to update all modules following an ETM replacement may result in vehicle malfunctions.
CAUTION: If the PAM has been replaced, or if the PAM software is updated, the ETM MUST be at version 2.5, and at a minimum software level of A85 (Refer to all applicable published service bulletins for detailed repair procedures and labor times regarding updating the ETM). After the PAM replacement and/or software update, all of the following modules MUST be updated:
  • Body Control Module (BCM)
  • Amplifier (AMP)
  • Antilock Brake System (ABS)
  • Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
  • Entertainment Telematics Module (ETM)
  • Left Blind Spot Sensor (LBSS)/Right Blind Spot Sensor (RBSS)

Failure to update all modules following a PAM replacement and/or software update may result in vehicle malfunctions.
NOTE: Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
  1. Reprogram the BCM with the latest software. Detailed instructions for flashing control modules using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application are available by selecting the application's "HELP" tab.
  2. Were the windshield wipers activated after the reprogramming?
    • YES>>> Continue with the Repair Procedure. Proceed to Step 3  .
    • NO>>> Continue with the Repair Procedure. Proceed to Step   4  .
  3. Using wiTECH 2, under the BCM miscellaneous function tab, go to "wiper type configuration" routine and set it to "Wiper Type 1".
  4. Perform a BCM reset by the following steps:
    1. Verify all power windows are in the fully closed position.
    2. Exit the vehicle.
    3. Open the decklid.
    4. Wait one minute after the IPC has gone to sleep.
      NOTE: The IPC must be off before disconnecting the battery.
    5. Disconnect the negative battery cable and leave it disconnected for at least one minute.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Close the decklid.
  7. Using wiTECH 2, perform the Electric Power Steering (EPS) module re-learn.
  8. Clear all DTCs that may have been set in any module due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow them to be cleared.

NOTE: The expected completion time for the flash download portion of this procedure is approximately 2 minutes. Actual flash download times may be affected by vehicle connection and network capabilities.
