Flash: Radio Frequency Hub Module (RFHM) Diagnostic and System Improvements

OVERVIEW

This bulletin involves reprogramming the RFHM with the latest available software.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: NAFTA.
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before July 10, 2017 (MDH 0710XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Some customers may notice that the remote start does not always work. Upon further investigation the technician may find the following Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) has been set:

DIAGNOSIS

Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH 2) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify all related systems are functioning as designed. If any DTCs or symptom/conditions, other than the one listed above is present, record the issues on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above or if the technician finds the DTC, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE: The Body Control Module (BCM) must be updated to the latest available software at the conclusion of this repair procedure. Refer to all applicable published service bulletins for detailed repair procedures and labor times regarding updating the BCM software.
NOTE: To properly perform this procedure the vehicle must be out of logistics mode. Using wiTECH 2, take the vehicle out of logistics mode by following the Exit Logistic routine, found in the BCM Misc. Function tab.
  1. Using wiTECH 2, under the RFHM data tab, locate the tire pressure sensor ID numbers. Record all four ID numbers on the work order for later use.
    NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
    NOTE: Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
  2. Reprogram the RFHM with the latest software. Detailed instructions for flashing control modules using the wiTECH 2 Diagnostic Application are available by selecting the application's "HELP" tab.
  3. Clear all DTCs that may have been set in any module due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow them to be cleared.
  4. Using wiTECH 2, under the RFHM data tab, locate the tire pressure sensor ID numbers. Check if the tire pressure sensor ID numbers are missing or incorrect. Compare to the ID number on the work order.
  5. Are the tire pressure sensor ID numbers correct, as recorded in step  1?
    • YES >>> Proceed to Step  7.
    • NO >>> Proceed to Step 6.
  6. Use wiTECH 2, under RFHM miscellaneous function tab, perform the following routine, on each Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) sensor:
    • RFH_TPM program left rear tire sensor Id.
    • RFH_TPM program right rear tire sensor Id.
    • RFH_TPM program left front tire sensor Id.
    • RFH_TPM program right front tire sensor Id.
  7. Verify the BCM is programmed with the latest available software. Refer to all applicable published service bulletins for detailed repair procedures and labor times regarding updating the BCM software.

NOTE: The expected completion time for the flash download portion of this procedure is approximately 2 minutes. Actual flash download times may be affected by vehicle connection and network capabilities.
