Function 03 - Output Diagnostic Test Mode
Perform output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) when instructed by DTC testing procedure. Output DTM actuates individual actuators one at a time (with the exception of fuel injectors). Actuators are activated for about one minute unless the next actuator is selected earlier by pressing forward arrow button on scan tool. Actuators can be checked by listening or by touch. Fuel pump will run continuously while output DTM is active.
Connect VAS 5051 scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located behind cover under left side of steering column. See Figure. Using scan tool, select vehicle system "01- ENGINE ELECTRONICS". Ignition must remain on for duration of output DTM. From selection field No. 1 click on diagnostic function "03 - ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC". Following scan tool instructions perform output DTM. Output DTM activates following components in specified sequence:
- Evaporative emission canister purge regulator valve.
- Secondary air injection solenoid valve.
- Secondary air injection pump relay.
- Wastegate bypass regulator valve.
- Camshaft adjustment solenoid.
- Leak detection pump tank ventilation system.
- Recirculating valve for turbocharger.
- Cylinder No. 1 fuel injector.
- Cylinder No. 2 fuel injector.
- Cylinder No. 3 fuel injector.
- Cylinder No. 4 fuel injector.
- Brake system vacuum pump (vehicle with automatic transmissions).
If all actuators function as specified, end output DTM by pressing "BACK ARROW" button on scan tool. If any actuator does not function as specified, use scan tool to retrieve DTCs. If DTC relevant to inoperative actuator is stored, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, NO START, etc.).
