DTC P1612/18020: Engine Control Module Incorrectly Coded

NOTE: VAS 5051 scan tool with VAG 5051/1 adapter cable and VAG 1598/31 test box are necessary to diagnose this code. Follow test equipment manufacturer's instructions for scan tool operation.

NOTE: For this DTC, ECM does not illuminate Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) unless malfunction is recognized after 2 consecutive ignition cycles.

DTC P1612/18020 indicates ECM coding problem. If ECM loses power, or is replaced ECM coding must be checked. See FUNCTION 07 - CODING ENGINE CONTROL MODULE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, use scan tool to clear DTCs and generate a ECM readiness code. See FUNCTION 05 - CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES and READINESS CODE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTC does not reset testing is complete.
