Function 03 - Output Diagnostic Test Mode

NOTE: Ignition must remain on during output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM). If ignition is turned off during output DTM, before re-initating output DTM, engine must be started and ignition turned off and on again.

Perform DTM when instructed by DTC testing procedure. Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) actuates individual actuators one at a time (with the exception of fuel injectors). Actuators are activated for about one minute unless the next actuator is selected earlier by pressing forward arrow button on scan tool. Actuators can be checked by listening or by touch. Fuel pump will run continuously while output DTM is active.

Connect VAS 5051 scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located behind cover under left side of steering column. See Figure. On scan tool, select vehicle system "01 - ENGINE ELECTRONICS". Ignition must remain on for duration of output DTM. From selection field 1, select diagnostic function "03 - OUTPUT DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE". Following scan tool instructions perform output DTM. Output DTM activates following components in specified sequence:

If all actuators function as specified, end output DTM by pressing "back arrow" button on scan tool. If any actuator does not function as specified, use scan tool to retrieve DTCs. If DTC relevant to inoperative actuator is stored, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, NO START, etc.).
