Function 02 - Check DTC Memory

  1. Connect VAS 5051 scan tool or generic scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located behind cover under left side of steering column. See Figure. Start engine and let it idle. If engine will not start, crank engine for 5 seconds or more. Do not turn ignition off under any circumstance. Using scan tool, select vehicle system "01 - ENGINE ELECTRONICS". From selection 1, select diagnostic function "02 - CHECK DTC MEMORY". Press "Q" button to confirm input, and go to next step.
  2. Scan tool should display "NO DTC RECOGNIZED" or "X DTC RECOGNIZED". If VAS 5051 scan tool is being used, print out screen content. DTCs will be shown in sequence and printed. If malfunctions were recognized, go to next step. If no malfunctions were recognized, go to step  5.
  3. NOTE: If no DTCs were stored in memory, do not unnecessarily erase DTCs. If DTCs are erased, readiness code must be re-generated. See READINESS CODE . DTCs will not be erased if ignition was switched off during procedure, or a static malfunction was not repaired.
  4. If any DTCs are displayed, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . On scan tool, press forward arrow button, and select diagnostic function "05 - ERASE DTC MEMORY". Press "Q" button to confirm input, and go to next step.
  5. If scan tool displays "DTC MEMORY WAS NOT INTERROGATED", procedure was not followed properly. Repeat diagnostic function, "02 - CHECK DTC MEMORY". After repairing any malfunctions, check DTC memory, and erase DTCs as necessary. Go to next step.
  6. On scan tool, select diagnostic function "06 - END OUTPUT". Press "Q" button to confirm input, and disconnect scan tool from vehicle.
