Level Control System Sensor, Removing and Installing

General Information

Vehicles with level control and/or gas discharge lamps have standard automatic headlamp range control → 94 - LIGHTS, SWITCHES - EXTERIOR .

To function properly, the level control and automatic headlamp range control system need information about compression travel or rebound travel at the front and rear axles.

The position of the lower left control arm relative to the body is transferred to the left front vehicle level control system sensor G78 via a coupling rod. This transmits electrical signals to the high-intensity gas discharge lamp control module J343/344.

Left/Right High-intensity Gas Discharge Lamp Control Module J343/344 , servicing → 94 - LIGHTS, SWITCHES - EXTERIOR .

At the rear axle, these signals from Left Rear Level Control System Sensor G76 and Right Rear Level Control System Sensor G77 are transmitted to the Left/Right High-intensity Gas Discharge Lamp Control Module J343/344.

These signals are required for determining vehicle level.

The automatic headlight range control reacts independently to changes in vehicle level.

The vehicle level can change in the following situations:

CAUTION: Headlamp and level control setting!

The control position must be adapted and the headlamp basic setting much be checked if

Re-adapt control position → Control Position, Programming .

Headlamp basic setting. Standard → HALOGEN HEADLAMPS or HID → HID HEADLAMPS .

Removing

Note that there are different versions with a "long" or "short" lever.

Only use the same version of the sensor. Do not install both versions together.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:

The sensor lever must point forward.
