Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217, replacing
NOTE:
- The Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 is a component of the mechatronic unit in the transmission and cannot be replaced separately.
- To achieve optimal anti-theft protection for the vehicle, an anti-theft immobilizer was installed. The anti-theft immobilizer is a system for enabling/locking the Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217.
- So that this system cannot be circumvented, it is necessary to perform adaptation of the anti-theft immobilizer using the Vehicle Diagnosis Service Syst. VAS5052 in the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) function.
- If the Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 must be replaced, the vehicle may be taken to the nearest Audi dealership for instructions on obtaining a Vehicle Diagnosis Service Syst. VAS5052.
Work procedure
Check control module identification of the previous Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 as follows:
- Connect Vehicle Diagnosis Service Syst. VAS5052. → Diagnostic tester, connecting .
- Switch ignition on.
- In diagnostic function "address word 33 - OBD" select "Diagnostic mode 9: Vehicle information."
- Select "Test-ID 04: Calibration identification".
- The Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 identification will be displayed, e.g.: 09G27750 L 0301
- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
- Replace mechatronic unit in transmission. → 38 - AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - GEARS, HYDRAULIC CONTROLS .
- Check identification of the new Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 to ensure it matches the old Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217.
- Code Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217. → Diagnostic mode 9: Vehicle information .
- Generate readiness code. → Readiness code, generating .
