DTC Memory, checking
Procedure
- Connect diagnostic tester. → Diagnostic tester, connecting .
- Start engine and let run at idle.
NOTE:
- If the engine does not start, crank engine using starter for at least 5 seconds, do not switch the ignition off afterward under any circumstances.
- In diagnostic function "address word 33 - OBD" select "Diagnostic Mode 3: Check DTC memory.".
- Select desired measured value according to "PID XX", e.g. "PID 05-Coolant temperature", via the following table.
NOTE:
- The DTC tables are sorted by SAE code.
- Measuring values of the Engine Control Module (ECM) J623 are displayed under "10 - Engine electronics" and measuring values of Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217 are displayed under "1A - Transmission electronics".
- In addition, emission-relevant malfunctions are indicated in the instrument cluster via the lighting up of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) K83.
- Electronic throttle malfunctions are also indicated by the Electronic Power Control (EPC) Warning Lamp K132 in the instrument cluster.
- In diagnostic Mode 2: Check operating conditions, it can be determined at which operating condition the Engine Control Module (ECM) J623 detected and stored a malfunction. → Diagnostic Mode 2: Obtain operating conditions .

- Repair stored malfunction(s) according to DTC table:
SAE P0xxx-DTCs. → SAE P0xxx-DTCs .
SAE P1xxx-DTCs → SAE P1xxx-DTCs .
SAE P2xxx-DTCs. → SAE P2xxx-DTCs .
SAE P3xxx-DTCs. → SAE P3xxx-DTCs .
SAE U0xxx-DTCs, → SAE U0xxx-DTCs .
Final procedures
The following work steps must be performed in the described sequence after the malfunction(s) have been repaired:
- Check DTC memory..
- If necessary, erase DTC memory..
- If DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code..
- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
