Diagnostic Mode 8: Tank leak test
This diagnostic mode checks the fuel system for leaks.
NOTE:
- The Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Regulator Valve N80 and the Leak Detection Pump (LDP) V144 seal the tank system.
Test requirements
- No DTCs in DTC memory. → Diagnostic Mode 3: Interrogating DTC memory .
- Intake Air Temperature (IAT) maximum 60° C.
- Coolant temperature 80 tp 110° C.
- Throttle valve angle 12.0 to 16.0%.
Test sequence
- Connect diagnostic tester. → Diagnostic tester, connecting .
- Start engine and let run at idle for at least 15 minutes.
- In diagnostic function "address word 33 - OBD" select "Mode 8: Tank Leak Test".
- Select "Test-ID 01: Tank Leak Test".
- Check specified value of tank leak test at idle.

NOTE:
- If the accelerator pedal is depressed during the test, the test will be aborted.
- To repeat the tank test, switch the ignition off and start the engine again and let run for 15 minutes at idle.
- End diagnosis and switch the ignition off.
If specified value is obtained:
- Check EVAP canister system for proper seal. → Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister system, checking for proper seal .
- Check Leak Detection Pump (LDP) V144. → Leak Detection Pump (LDP) -V144-, checking .
Final procedures
After repair work, the following work steps must be performed in the mentioned sequence:
- Check DTC memory..
- If necessary, erase DTC memory..
- If DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code..
- End diagnosis and switch ignition off.
