Ignition System Components, Removing and Installing

1 - Connector

• Black, 4-pin
• Before disconnecting, mark allocation of connector to component

2 - Hood

• For Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor

3 - Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor*

• Before disconnecting, mark allocation of connector to component
• Sensor contacts and connector contacts gold plated
• Checking → Camshaft Position Sensor, Checking 

Cylinder bank 1

• Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 1 G40 on intake camshaft
• Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 3 G300 on exhaust camshaft

Cylinder bank 2

• Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 2 G163 on intake camshaft
• Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor 4 G301 on exhaust camshaft

4 - 10 Nm

5 - 20 Nm

• Torque setting influences the function of knock sensor

6 - Knock sensors*

• Contact surfaces between knock sensor and cylinder block must be free of corrosion, dirt and grease
• Checking → Knock Sensors, Checking 

Cylinder bank 1

• Component location: Knock Sensors 1 and 2 → Component location: Knock sensors 1 and 2 for cylinder bank 1 

Cylinder bank 2

• Component location: Knock Sensors 3 and 4 → Knock Sensor 3 G198  under Knock Sensors, Checking 

7 - 3-pin connector

• Contacts gold plated
• Light gray for Knock Sensor (KS) 1 G61
• Gray for Knock Sensor (KS) 2 G66
• Orange for Knock Sensor 3 G198

• Black for Knock Sensor 4 G199

8 - Spark plug, 30 Nm

• Type and spark plug gap → Technical Data, Spark Plugs 

9 - Ignition coils with power output stages*

• Removing and installing → Ignition Coils With Power Output Stage, Removing and Installing 
• Checking → Ignition Coils With Power Output Stages, Checking 

Cylinder bank 1

• Ignition Coil with Power Output Stage 1 to 6 (N70 , N127, N21, N292, N323 and N324)

Cylinder bank 2

• Ignition Coil with Power Output Stage 7 to 12 (N325 to N330)
