Transmission Control Module, Replacing
The Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- is a component of the mechatronic unit in the transmission and cannot be replaced separately.
To achieve optimal anti-theft protection for the vehicle, an anti-theft immobilizer was installed. The anti-theft immobilizer is a system for enabling/locking the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.
To perform adaptation of the anti-theft immobilizer. Refer to the Ebahn website.
Procedure
Check the identification of the previous Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- as follows:
-- Connect the scan tool.
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Select "Diagnostic mode 9: Vehicle information."
-- Select the "Test-ID 04: Calibration identification".
-- The Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- identification will be displayed, e.g.: 09G27750 L 0301
-- End diagnosis and switch the ignition off.
-- Replace the mechatronic unit in the transmission. Refer to ATF PAN, ATF FILTER AND MECHATRONIC OVERVIEW ..
-- Check the identification of the new Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- to ensure it matches the old Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.
-- Code the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.
Final Procedures
- Check the DTC memory. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 03 - READ DTC MEMORY .
- If necessary, erase DTC memory of the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 04 - ERASE DTC MEMORY .
- Generate readiness code. Refer to READINESS CODE .

Removal
-- Remove the transmission end cover and mounting bolts. Refer to END COVER
Remove the mounting bolts -arrows- and pull out the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- without tilting it.
Remove twin lip oil seal -A- from the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.
Installation
-- Assembly is performed in the reverse of the removal. Note the following:
When positioning the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- ensure sensor on control module is not damaged.
Replace gaskets and O-rings.
If necessary, clean sensors -A, B, C- of dirt and metal shavings.
Clean selector shaft. Refer to SELECTOR SHAFT CLEANING
Before installing Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-, coat new O-rings -A- on hydraulic control module with ATF.
Install the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- without tilting it. Harness connectors -A, B, C- on rear side of control module must engage on hydraulic control module.
-- Check the identification of the new Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- to ensure it matches the old Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.
-- Code the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.
