Engine And Transmission, Separating

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required 

Procedure 

-- Disconnect and remove the connectors from the bracket and free up the wires.

  1. for Heated Oxygen Sensor -G39-
  2. for Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 -G108-
  3. for Oxygen Sensor after Three Way Catalytic Converter -G130-
  4. for Oxygen Sensor 2 after Catalytic Converter -G131-
  5. for Oxygen Sensor 3 after Catalytic Converter -G287-
  6. for Oxygen Sensor 4 after Catalytic Converter -G288-
  7. for Heated Oxygen Sensor 3 -G285-
  8. for Heated Oxygen Sensor 4 -G286-

-- Remove the front and rear nuts -1, 2 and 3- and then remove the left exhaust manifold with the catalytic converters.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- from the left transmission mount and the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- from the power steering hydraulic pipe on the left transmission support.

All Vehicles:

-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and remove the left transmission mount from the transmission support.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

  • Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

-- To discharge static electricity, touch the transmission housing (without wearing gloves).

-- Turn the twist lock counter-clockwise -arrow- and disconnect the connector from the transmission.

-- Loosen the clamp -arrow- and remove the coolant hose from the left lower coolant pipe.

-- Remove the front and rear nuts -1, 2 and 3- and then remove the right exhaust manifold with the catalytic converters.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- from the right transmission mount and the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -2- and then remove the right transmission mount from the transmission support.

-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 2- and remove them from the bracket.

-- Press the release buttons and remove the secondary air hoses -arrows-.

-- Move the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) hose with the electric wiring harness to the side.

-- Remove the bolt -1- for the right rear coolant pipe from the transmission.

-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrows- and remove the bracket for the Secondary Air Injection Pump Motor -V101- /Secondary Air Injection Pump Motor 2 -V189-.

NOTE:

Use a cloth to catch any leaking coolant.

-- Remove the bolt -1-, remove the coolant hose, to do this loosen the hose clamp -upper arrow-.

-- Coolant pipe on the right side of the transmission

NOTE:

Ignore -bottom arrow-.

-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission flange shaft, refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the cover -arrow- and ribbed belt idler roller.

-- Equip the Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B with the Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set VAS 6131/12, and Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 as follows:

NOTE:

The other attachments remain unchanged.

-- Connect the right front Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 to the engine using a M10 x 65 bolt -arrow- in threaded hole as shown in the illustration.

-- Tighten the Articulated Joint Support VAS 6131/13-7 to 20 Nm on the scissor lift table.

-- Attach mounting elements from Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set VAS 6131/12 on the left of the transmission, as shown in illustration.

-- Attach mounting elements from Scissor Lift Table - Audi Set VAS 6131/10 and Scissor Lift Table - A6 Set VAS 6131/12 on the right side of the transmission mount as shown in illustration.

-- Turn the left and right spindles upward until all the mounting pins come into contact with the mounting points.

-- Attach mounting element base plates to Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B and tighten to 20 Nm.

-- Remove the starter bolts -1 and 2-.

-- Press the starter off the transmission and leave it in the installation position.

-- Remove the remaining bolts -3 through 14- that attach the engine to the transmission.

NOTE:

Ignore item -A-.

-- Loosen the clamping screws -1- on the sides of Scissor Lift Table VAS 6131B and pull the rear table top with the transmission toward rear -arrow-.
