Information Electronics Control Module 1, Removing And Installing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Radio Removal Tool: T10057
- Fiber-Optic Repair Set - Connector Protective Caps: VAS6223/9 .
Removing:
-- If the control module is replaced, select the "Replacement" function for the appropriate control module in "Guided Fault Finding" .
Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester to do this.
Perform the Following Steps:
-- Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment.
-- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Release and disconnect the connectors -2- through -7-.
Disconnect the fiber-optic cable -1- from the Information Electronics Control Module 1 and attach the Fiber-Optic Repair Set - Connector Protective Caps: VAS6223/9 to the disconnected fiber-optic cable connection.
Fiber-optic cable is very delicate!
The fiber-optic cable must not be kinked or significantly bent!
The bending radius must not be less than 25 mm.
A kinked fiber-optic cable is no longer usable, data transfer via kinked fiber-optic cable is faulty!
Please do not remove the protective caps from the ends of the fiber-optic cable until the fiber-optic cable is connected to the intended unit.
-- Insert the Radio Removal Tools: T10057 into the release slots -arrows- until they engage.
-- Pull the information electronics control module 1 via the gripping rings of the release tools in the direction of -arrow- out of the installation frame.
Installing:
Install in reverse order of removal.
When replacing radio navigation system control modules, it is necessary to adapt the replaced control modules to the vehicle. If this is not performed, component protection is activated for these control modules so that they do not work or only on a highly limited basis.
Adapt the control module. Refer to ANTI-THEFT COMPONENT PROTECTION .
Use the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester to enable the control module after it has been replaced. Currently this applies only to Argentina, Brazil and India.

Enabling the Control Module:
On the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, select "Guided Fault Finding" .
After all control modules have been checked:
-- Press the "Go to" button.
-- Select "Functions/Component selection".
-- Select "software version management".
-- Select "Function Enabling System"
