LASER SENSOR (Laser Distance Regulation Control Module -J1122-), ADJUSTING
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Wheel Alignment Computer approved by VW/Audi
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Camera: VAS6331/1 or : VAS701001/1
- Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430/1 or Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430/1A
- Calibration Board Laser Scanner: VAS6430/12
- Mounting: VAS6430/12-1
- Calibration Tool - Linear Laser: VAS6350/3A
- Wrench - Driver: T10072
There are two options that can be selected for the calibration/adjustment:
The "complete alignment"
This procedure should be selected for the following activities if a wheel alignment and calibration/adjustment should be performed.
- The rear axle toe was adjusted.
- The vehicle suspension was changed, for example changing from standard to sport suspension.
The "Quick Start"
This procedure should be selected for the following activities if only the adjustment/calibration will be performed.
- The Laser Distance Regulation Control Module -J1122- was removed and installed or replaced.
- The mount for the Laser Distance Regulation Control Module -J1122- was removed and installed or replaced.
- The upper or lower impact member was removed and installed or replaced.
- The upper or lower impact member was loosened or moved.
- There is damage to the front bumper.
TIP:
- Both procedures are programmed in the wheel alignment computer. The procedure is automatically performed. The corresponding program for the procedure to be performed must be selected.
- If only the laser sensor calibration/adjustment should be performed, select the "quick start" mode on the wheel alignment computer.
- The procedure in the "quick start" mode is described in the information that follows.
TIP:
The following illustrations show the : VAS6430 together with the : VAS6430/7 .
Procedure
The procedure is described on a : VAS6331 .
The procedure may vary if using other wheel alignment computers. In this case, follow the instructions on the wheel alignment computer screen.
- Note the test requirements. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .
- Follow the measurement preparations for calibrating/adjusting the driver assistance systems. Refer to MEASUREMENT PREPARATIONS .
-- Check the laser sensors and retainers for damage, external influence and secure fit. Service damaged components.
-- Remove any dirt that may be on the laser sensor lens.
-- Check the front bumper cover for damage, cracks, and secure fit. Service damaged components.
-- Adjust to standard vehicle height and lock at that height. Refer to Air suspension .
-- Check the DTC memory for adaptive cruise control (ACC). Correct all displayed entries.
-- Drive the vehicle "straight" onto the alignment rack.
-- Move the wheels so that they are in a straight-ahead position.
-- Install quick-action clamps on the wheels.
-- Attach the reflectors to the quick-action clamps.
-- Perform the wheel run-out compensation. Refer to WHEEL RUN-OUT COMPENSATION .
-- Select the laser ACC calibration button in the wheel alignment computer.
- The : VAS6331 must not be moved on the calibration beam.
-- Attach the : VAS6430/12 centered on the : VAS6430 .
-- Position the camera : VAS6331/1 or : VAS701001/1 , not illustrated -5- on the right Mount: VAS6430/12-1 -2- and tighten it.
- Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430/1A
- Mount: VAS6430/12-1
- Calibration Board Laser Scanner: VAS6430/12
- Calibration Tool - Linear Laser: VAS6350/3A
- Camera : VAS6331/1 or : VAS701001/1
-- Position the Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430 at distance -a- from the edge of the crossbar -black line- to the Audi rings.
- Dimension -a- = 130 to 132.5 cm
-- Using the adjusting screws -1, 2, and 3- bring the bubble levels -A and B- on the rear side of the : VAS6430/12 into a level position.
-- Switch on the : VAS6350/3A and insert it in the : VAS6430/12-1 so that the lineal laser beam exits horizontally.
- The smooth, non-corrugated surface of the : VAS6350/3A -arrow- that is shown in blue in the illustration must face toward the horizontal arrow -1- on the : VAS6430/12-1 .
-- Engage the : VAS6430/12-1 with : VAS6350/3A on the center of the : VAS6430/12 .
-- Adjust the : VAS6430/12 using the crank -1- on the : VAS6430 so that the lineal laser beam -3- meets the laser sensor lens -2- on the vehicle at the horizontal bend point on the lens.
-- Remove the : VAS6430/12-1 with : VAS6350/3A on the center of the : VAS6430/12 .
-- Rotate the : VAS6350/3A 90° so that the lineal laser beam exits vertically. Insert the : VAS6350/3A all the way back into the : VAS6430/12-1 .
- The smooth, non-corrugated surface of the : VAS6350/3A -arrow- must face toward the vertical arrow -2- on the : VAS6430/12-1 .
-- Engage the : VAS6430/12-1 with : VAS6350/3A on the center of the : VAS6430/12 again.
-- Move the : VAS6430 to the side in direction of -arrow- until the lineal laser beam -3- hits the vertical center of the Audi rings -2-.
-- Turn the fine adjustment screw -1- until the display on the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Check again:
- If the lineal laser beam from the : VAS6350/3A hits the vertical center of the Audi rings.
- If the lineal laser beam from the : VAS6350/3A hits at the horizontal bend point on the laser sensor lens.
- If the lineal laser beam from the : VAS6350/3A hits the vertical center of the Audi rings after adjusting it with the fine adjustment screw, the : VAS6430 is set up (positioned) correctly.
- If the lineal laser beam does not hit the vertical center of the Audi rings, the : VAS6430 must be set up again.
- For the rest of the procedure, the : VAS6430/12-1 with the : VAS6350/3A must be removed from the : VAS6430 .
