RADAR SENSOR (Control Module for Adaptive Cruise Control -J428-), ADJUSTING
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Wheel Alignment Computer approved by VW/Audi
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Camera: VAS6331/1 or : VAS701001/1
- Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430/1 or Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430/1A
- ACC Reflector Mirror: VAS6430/3
- Screwdriver with T-bar : VAS272001
There are two options that can be selected for the calibration/adjustment:
The "complete alignment"
This procedure should be selected for the following activities if a wheel alignment and calibration/adjustment should be performed.
- The rear axle toe was adjusted.
- The vehicle suspension was changed, for example changing from standard to sport suspension.
The "quick guide"
This procedure should be selected for the following activities if only the calibration/adjustment will be performed.
- The Distance Regulation Control Module -J428- was removed and installed or replaced.
- The front bumper was removed and installed or replaced.
- The front bumper was loosened or moved.
- There is damage to the front bumper.
TIP:
- Both procedures are programmed in the wheel alignment computer. The procedure is automatically performed. The corresponding program for the procedure to be performed must be selected.
- If only the radar sensor calibration/adjustment should be performed, select the "quick start" mode on the wheel alignment computer.
- The procedure in the "quick start" mode is described in the information that follows.
Procedure
The procedure is described on a : VAS6331 .
The procedure may vary if using other wheel alignment computers. In this case, follow the instructions on the wheel alignment computer screen.
- Note the test requirements. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .
- Follow the measurement preparations for calibrating/adjusting the driver assistance systems. Refer to MEASUREMENT PREPARATIONS .
-- Check sensors and retainers for damage, external influence and secure fit. Service damaged components.
-- Check the front bumper cover for damage, cracks, and secure fit. Service damaged components.
-- Adjust to standard vehicle height and lock at that height. Refer to Air suspension .
-- Check the DTC memory for adaptive cruise control (ACC). Correct all displayed entries.
-- Drive the vehicle "straight" onto the alignment rack.
-- Move the wheels so that they are in a straight-ahead position.
-- Install quick-action clamps on the wheels.
-- Attach the reflectors to the quick-action clamps.
-- Perform the wheel run-out compensation. Refer to WHEEL RUN-OUT COMPENSATION .
-- Remove the heating element for the adaptive cruise control (ACC) radar sensor. Refer to Heating Element for Adaptive Cruise Control Radar Sensor - Z185-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove any dirt that may be on the sensor lens.
-- Select the ACC calibration button in the wheel alignment computer.
- The Setting Device must not be moved on the calibration beam.
-- Position the Setting Device Basic Set: VAS6430/1A at distance -a- from the center of the ACC Reflector Mirror: VAS6430/3 -1- up to the Audi rings.
- Dimension -a- = 120 ± 2.5 cm
-- Position the Camera: VAS6331/1 or : VAS701001/1 -1- on the right of the Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430 and tighten it.
-- Move the ACC Reflector Mirror: VAS6430/3 -1- to the left on the vertical slits.
-- Adjust the knob on the ACC Reflector Mirror: VAS6430/3 -1- so that the number "2" is facing the line marking -arrows-.
-- Adjust the Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430 by moving the reflector mirror -2- at the side, so that the laser beam strikes the sensor lens -1-.
-- Level the bubble level -A- on the ACC Reflector Mirror: VAS6430/3 -5- using the adjusting screw -1-.
-- Level the bubble level -B- using the adjusting screws -2 and 3-.
-- Use the crank to adjust the reflector height -arrow- so that the laser beam is centered vertically on the sensor lens.
-- If necessary, reposition the reflector mirror at the side on the calibration beam until the laser beam is in the horizontal center of the sensor lens.
-- Turn the fine adjustment screw -4- until the display on the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Using the laser beam on the reflector mirror, check again if the laser beam is centered on the sensor lens. Align the reflector mirror again if necessary.
-- Switch on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Select and start the Diagnostic operating mode.
-- Select the Test plan tab.
-- Select the Select individual test button and select the following tree structure consecutively:
- Diagnostic-capable systems
- 0013 - Control Module for Adaptive Cruise Control J428
- 0013 - Control Module for Adaptive Cruise Control, functions
- 0013 - Calibration
-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.
-- The fine adjustment of the Control Module for Adaptive Cruise Control - J428- is done using the screws -1 and 2- with the : VAS272001 .
-- Switch off the ignition.
-- Disconnect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester from the data link connector.
-- Disconnect the battery charger. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
