Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera, Calibrating
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Wheel Alignment Computer approved by VW/Audi
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Camera: VAS6331/1 or : VAS701001/1
- Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430/1A
- Adapter VAS6430/9 : VAS6430/9 , only for surface mounted hoist with a dimension greater than 300 mm.
There are two choices for calibrating:
The "complete alignment"
This procedure must be selected for the following activities if a wheel alignment and calibration should be performed.
- The rear axle toe was adjusted.
- The vehicle suspension was changed, for example changing from standard to sport suspension.
"Quick Start"
This procedure must be selected for the following activities if only the calibration procedure will be performed.
- The Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242- was removed and installed or replaced.
- The bracket for the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242- was removed and installed or replaced.
- The lens was replaced (window heating faulty).
- The inside of the black cut-out was cleaned.
- The wire for the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera - R242- was replaced.
- The connector for the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera - R242- was touched.
- The windshield was removed and installed or replaced.
- The standard vehicle height was reprogrammed.
TIP:
- Both procedures are programmed in the wheel alignment computer. The respective procedure is performed automatically. It is only necessary to select the appropriate program for the procedure that will be performed.
- If only the driver assistance systems front camera should be calibrated, select the "quick start" mode on the wheel alignment computer.
- The procedure in the "quick access" mode is described in the following.
Procedure
The procedure is described on a : VAS6331 .
The procedure may vary if using other wheel alignment computers. In this case, follow the instructions on the wheel alignment computer screen.
- Note the test requirements. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .
- Follow the measurement preparations for calibrating/adjusting the driver assistance systems. Refer to MEASUREMENT PREPARATIONS .
Connect the battery charger for the battery support mode. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
-- Check if the : VAS6430 is in the center position and is locked.
-- Check if the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera -R242- fits correctly in the bracket and the viewing range for the camera is not blocked.
-- Adjust to standard vehicle height and lock at that height. Refer to Air suspension .
-- Check the DTC memory for the Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera - R242-. Correct all displayed entries.
-- Drive the vehicle "straight" onto the alignment rack.
-- Move the wheels so that they are in a straight-ahead position.
-- Install quick-action clamps on the wheels.
-- Attach the reflectors to the quick-action clamps.
-- Perform the wheel run-out compensation. Refer to WHEEL RUN-OUT COMPENSATION .
-- Select the button for the driver assistance systems front camera calibration procedure in the wheel alignment computer.
- The Setting Device must not be moved on the calibration beam.
-- Check the calibration board to make sure it is centered and secured in place.
- Dimension -a- = Dimension -b-
-- Position the : VAS6430/1A at a distance of -a- 150 cm ± 2.5 cm from the center of the wheel hub on the front wheels to the beam on the : VAS6430/1A .
- Measuring tape
-- Position the Camera: VAS6331/1 or : VAS701001/1 -1- on the right of the : VAS6430 and tighten it.
- For the next step, the alignment rack must be at the lowest level position.
-- Determine height -A- between the contact surface on the : VAS6430 and the wheel contact surface as shown in the illustration and enter this value into the wheel alignment computer.
- Height of the calibration board: 1, 400 mm + height value -A-.
-- Loosen the bolt -arrow- and position the measurement plate -1- on the ground.
-- Adjust the calibration board to the specified height -2- according to the wheel alignment computer using the crank -1-.
TIP:
Once the specified height -2- is reached, the measurement plate must be slid upward slightly and secured with the clamping screw.
- If the height of the calibration board is corrected at another point in the procedure, make sure that the measurement plate touches the floor at that point.
-- Bring the bubble level -A- into a level position using the adjusting screw -1-.
TIP:
The purpose of adjusting the level -A- is to compensate for uneven ground below the vehicle.
-- Move the : VAS6430 to the side in direction of -B arrows- until the display in the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Secure the : VAS6430 to prevent it from rolling by lightly tightening the screws -2 and 3-.
-- Turn the fine adjustment screw -1- until the display on the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Bring the bubble level -A- into a level position using the adjusting screw -1-.
-- Level the bubble level -B- using the adjusting screws -2 and 3-.
- Because the height may change slightly after adjusting the levels, check the height of the calibration board again. Refer to DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS FRONT CAMERA, CALIBRATING - Adjust the calibration board to the specified height -2- according to the wheel alignment computer using the crank -1-. .
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Select and start the Diagnostic operating mode.
-- Select the Test plan tab.
-- Select the Select individual test button and select the following tree structure consecutively:
- Diagnostic-capable systems
- 00A5 - Driver Assistance Systems Control Module
- 00A5 - Driver Assistance Systems Control Module, functions
- 00A5 - Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera, Calibrating
-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.
The next step is to determine the height of the vehicle body.
-- Determine the height of the vehicle body -a- at all four wheels in the center of the wheel between the wheel contact surface and the lower edge of the fender or wheel housing.
-- Switch off the ignition after successful calibration.
-- Disconnect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester from the data link connector.
-- Disconnect the battery charger. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
