Position Sensor
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 13 other vehicles, including the 2017 Audi SQ5, 2017 Audi Q5, 2016 Audi SQ5, 2016 Audi Q5, and 2015 Audi SQ5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
A sensor monitors the position of the hollow shaft and the bearing eccentricity. A magnetic ring on the hollow shaft works as a sensor. The magnetic ring has eight poles. A sensor with three Hall elements monitors the magnetic field. Every time the engine rotates 15 degrees (corresponds to 0.3 degree on the steering wheel) a signal is sent to the Active Steering Control Module -J792-. When the ignition is turned off, the actual position in the Active Steering Control Module -J792- is stored. If there is a sudden loss at terminal 30, the Initialization sensor recognizes the zero position.
