Function

The Nox Sensor Control Module -J583- / Nox Sensor Control Module 2 -J881- monitor their integrated knock sensors and report conditions via CAN bus to the Engine Control Module - J623- to reduce engine knock.

The Nox Sensor Control Module -J583- / Nox Sensor -G295- components cannot be serviced separately, it must be serviced as a unit.

The Nox Sensor Control Module 2 -J881- / Nox Sensor 2 -G687- components cannot be serviced separately, it must be serviced as a unit.

Test Requirements

A/C switched off
All electrical consumers switched off
Battery voltage at least 12.5 volts
Engine control module fuses OK
Ground connections between engine/transmission/chassis OK
Ignition switched off
Vehicles with automatic transmission, shift selector lever in park or neutral

Test Procedure

2	DISCONNECT: Nox Sensor Control Module -J583- / Nox Sensor Control Module 2 -J881- harness connector IGNITION: ON CHECK: Nox Sensor Control Module -J583- / Nox Sensor Control Module 2 -J881- harness connector terminals 1 to 2 (and 5 if equipped) for voltage. SPECIFIED VALUE: Battery voltage. IGNITION: OFF -- Was value obtained?	-- YES: GO TO: Step 3 -- NO: CHECK: wiring for open, high resistance, short or electrical connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals REPAIR: faulty wiring. GO TO: Step 4
3	REMOVE: Engine Control Module - J623-. Refer to appropriate service information. CHECK: Nox Sensor Control Module -J583- / Nox Sensor Control Module 2 -J881- harness connector terminals 3 to the Engine Control Module - J623- harness connector terminals T91 / 52 for resistance. CHECK: Nox Sensor Control Module -J583- / Nox Sensor Control Module 2 -J881- harness connector terminals 4 to the Engine Control Module - J623- harness connector terminals T91 / 51 for resistance. SPECIFIED VALUE: 0.5 Ω (± 0.3 Ω) -- Was value obtained?	-- YES: REPLACE: Nox Sensor Control Module -J583- / Nox Sensor Control Module 2 -J881-. Refer to appropriate repair information. GO TO: Step 4 -- NO: CHECK: wiring for open, high resistance, short or electrical connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals REPAIR: faulty wiring. GO TO: Step 4
4	Final Procedure Perform a road test to verify repair. Do any DTC's return:	-- YES: Check the DTC memory. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC MODE 03 - READ DTC MEMORY . Perform the diagnostic procedure for that DTC. -- NO: Repair is complete, Generate readiness code. Refer to READINESS CODE . Return vehicle to Customer
