Control Module, Attaching To Hydraulic Unit: Procedure
Replace the bolts after removing them.
There is a risk of malfunctions.
- The sealing surface on the hydraulic unit must have a clean, even surface.
- Replace the hydraulic unit if the sealing surface or contact tags are damaged.
- The seal on the control module cannot be replaced.
- The seal on the control module must not be pulled out or raised up.
Do not use aggressive cleaning agents (use cleaning agent enclosed).
Check sealing surface for damage (visual check).
There is a risk of destroying the ABS control module.
- Moisture and dirt particles must not enter the inside of the control module.
- Do not use compressed air to clean the control module or hydraulic unit.
- Protect the control module against knocks and impacts: A control module that has fallen onto the floor may no longer be used.
- Surface must be cleaned before assembling.
-- Place control module without canting it onto hydraulic unit.
The hydraulic unit threads cannot be re-cut to secure the control module. In the threads are damaged (bolts are difficult to install by hand or the bolts cannot be tightened to the tightening specification), the hydraulic unit must be replaced.
-- Tighten the hydraulic unit and control module with the supplied new TORX® bolts -arrows- switching back and forth in two steps to the tightening specification.
A new control module may be installed a max. of three times to a used hydraulic unit, to ensure that the elastic gasket seals sufficiently.
Do not install a used control module.
-- Install the ABS Control Module -J104- /ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-. Refer to ABS Control Module -J104- /ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, WITHOUT HIGH VOLTAGE SYSTEM .
-- Bleed the brake system. Refer to HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, BLEEDING .
If the ABS Control Module -J104- is being replaced, select the "Replace" function for the ABS Control Module -J104- on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, Guided Functions .
After Replacing the Control Module and Bleeding the Brake System
- All warning lamps for the ABS/ESP must go out.
There is the risk of an accident.
- Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle.
