Electric Motor

A permanently excited synchronous motor is used. The rotor, rigidly coupled to the hollow shaft, is comprised of eight permanent magnets with alternating polarity. The stator consists of six pairs of coils. The coils are arranged inside the actuator housing. They are activated by the control module. The shielded supply lead is connected to the actuator housing. The motor is activated by three phase-offset AC voltages. These produce a rotating magnetic field around the stationary coils. The force action of this alternating magnetic field on the permanent magnet of the rotor mounted on the hollow shaft induces a rotational movement of the rotor. The principal advantage of this type of electric motor is that it has a quick response. This is essential for making corrective steering inputs to stabilize the vehicle.
