Infrared Locking System, Operation
System Description
The infrared locking system operates the central locking system, activates/deactivates the anti-theft alarm without inserting the key into the door or trunk lock, and recalls seat and mirror memory positions without having to operate a seat memory button on the inside of the driver's door.
The infrared transmitter and batteries are incorporated in two of the vehicle keys. These keys send a coded infrared signal to the infrared sensors (receivers) which are located in the door B-pillars on both sides of the vehicle. The infrared locking system control module is incorporated along with the alarm control module and the interior light delay control module into the central locking system pump. It is located under the rear seat near the battery.
The infrared key will operate within the area illustrated on either side of the vehicle. The maximum effective range can vary between 6 to 12 feet. This range will decrease as the batteries in the key become weak.
