LASER SENSOR (Laser Distance Regulation Control Module -J1122-), ADJUSTING, FROM PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Wheel Alignment Computer approved by VW/Audi
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Wheel Alignment Computer - Camera :VAS701001/1
- Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430/1 or Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430/1A
- Calibration Board Laser Scanner :VAS6430/12
- Mounting :VAS6430/12-1
- Calibration Tool - Linear Laser :VAS6350/3A
- Torx T20 Screwdriver :T10072
There are two choices for calibrating/adjusting:
The "complete alignment"
This procedure should be selected for the following activities if a wheel alignment and calibration/adjustment should be performed.
- The rear axle toe was adjusted.
- The vehicle suspension was changed, for example changing from standard to sport suspension.
The "quick access"
This procedure should be selected for the following activities if only the adjustment/calibration will be performed.
- The Laser Distance Regulation Control Module -J1122- was removed and installed or replaced.
- The front bumper was removed and installed or replaced.
- The front bumper was loosened or adjusted.
- There is damage on the front bumper.
- The Drivetrain Control Module -J775- was calibrated or replaced.
TIP:
- Both procedures are programmed in the wheel alignment computer. The respective procedure is performed automatically. It is only necessary to select the appropriate program for the procedure that will be performed.
- If only the laser sensor calibration/adjustment should be performed, select the "quick start" mode on the wheel alignment computer.
- The procedure in the "quick access" mode is described in the following.
TIP:
The following illustrations show the Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430 together with the Setting Device Basic Set - Base Frame :VAS6430/7 .
Procedure
As an example, the procedure is described for the Wheel Alignment Computer :VAS701001 .
- Note the test requirements. Refer to TEST REQUIREMENTS .
- Follow the measurement preparations for calibrating/adjusting the driver assistance systems. Refer to MEASUREMENT PREPARATIONS .
-- Check the laser sensors and retainers for damage, external influence and secure fit. Service any damaged components.
-- Remove any dirt that may be on the laser sensor lens.
-- Check the front bumper cover for damage, cracks and secure fit. Service any damaged components.
-- Vehicle with rear axle steering: drive the vehicle "straight" onto the alignment rack. Switch off the ignition when the vehicle has come to a stop.
-- Steer the rear axle to the zero position. Refer to Rear Axle Steering .
- This is the only way to ensure that the rear axle steering is in the straight-ahead position.
-- Vehicle with air suspension: adjust to standard vehicle height and lock. Refer to Air Suspension .
-- Check the DTC memory for adaptive cruise control (ACC). Fix all displayed entries.
-- Move the wheels so that they are straight.
-- Install quick-action clamps on the wheels.
-- Attach the reflectors to the quick-action clamps.
-- Perform the wheel run-out compensation.
-- Select the laser ACC calibration button in the wheel alignment computer.
- The ACC Setting Device must not be moved on the calibration beam.
-- Attach the Calibration Board Laser Scanner :VAS6430/12 centered on the Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430 .
-- Place the Camera :VAS701001/1 -5- for the ACC adjustment on the Mount :VAS6430/12-1 -2- on the right side and tighten.
- Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430/1A
- Mount :VAS6430/12-1
- Calibration Board Laser Scanner :VAS6430/12
- Calibration Tool - Linear Laser :VAS6350/3A
- Wheel Alignment Computer - Camera :VAS701001/1
-- Position the Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430 at distance -a- from the edge of the crossbar -black line- to the Audi rings.
- Dimension -a- = 130 to 132.5 cm (51.18 to 52.17 in.)
-- Using the adjusting screws -1, 2, and 3- bring the bubble levels -A and B- on the rear side of the Calibration Board Laser Scanner :VAS6430/12 into a level position.
-- Switch on the Calibration Tool - Lineal Laser :VAS6350/3A and insert it in the Mounting :VAS6430/12-1 so that the lineal laser beam exits horizontally.
- The smooth, non-corrugated surface of the Calibration Tool - Lineal Laser :VAS6350/3A -arrow- that is shown in blue in the illustration must face toward the horizontal arrow -1- on the Mounting :VAS6430/12-1 .
-- Engage the Mounting :VAS6430/12-1 with Calibration Tool - Lineal Laser :VAS6350/3A on the center of the Calibration Board - Laser Scanner :VAS6430/12 .
-- Adjust the Calibration Board - Laser Scanner :VAS6430/12 using the crank -1- on the : VAS6430 so that the lineal laser beam -3- meets the laser sensor lens -2- on the vehicle at the horizontal bend point on the lens.
-- Remove the Mounting :VAS6430/12-1 with Calibration Tool - Lineal Laser :VAS6350/3A on the center of the Calibration Board - Laser Scanner :VAS6430/12 .
-- Rotate the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser :VAS6350/3A 90° so that the lineal laser beam exits vertically. Insert the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser :VAS6350/3A all the way back into the Mounting :VAS6430/12-1 .
- The smooth, non-corrugated surface of the Calibration Tool - Lineal Laser :VAS6350/3A -arrow- must face toward the vertical arrow -2- on the Mounting :VAS6430/12-1 .
-- Engage the Mounting :VAS6430/12-1 with Calibration Tool - Lineal Laser :VAS6350/3A on the center of the Calibration Board - Laser Scanner :VAS6430/12 again.
-- Move the Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430 to the side in the direction of -arrow- until the lineal laser beam -3- hits the vertical center of the Audi rings -2-.
-- Turn the fine adjustment screw -1- until the display on the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Check again:
- If the lineal laser beam from the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser :VAS6350/3A hits the vertical center of the Audi rings.
- If the lineal laser beam from the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser :VAS6350/3A hits at the horizontal bend point on the laser sensor lens.
- If the lineal laser beam from the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser :VAS6350/3A hits the vertical center of the Audi rings after adjusting it with the fine adjustment screw, the Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430 is set up (positioned) correctly.
- If the lineal laser beam does not hit the vertical center of the Audi rings, the Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430 must be set up again.
- For the rest of the procedure, the Mounting :VAS6430/12-1 with the Calibration Tool - Linear Laser :VAS6350/3A must be removed from the Setting Device - Basic Set :VAS6430 .
