SUBJECT

IHKA Control Module with "MAX A/C" Function

SITUATION

A new Auto Integrated Heating Air Conditioning System (IHKA) control module (with SW 17.0) featuring a new function: "MAX A/C" was introduced.

The new control panel can be distinguished from the original one, by the "MAX A/C" button (located in the upper, right corner), which replaced the "REST" function button.

New IHKA control module with "MAX A/C" function activated.

The following settings of the IHKA system are activated automatically by pressing the "MAX A/C" button:

  1. Temperature of 60°F is set (and displayed) for passenger and driver sides
  2. Air distribution is set to "Face Vents" only, for both sides
  3. Stratification potentiometer is set to "maximum cold" position
  4. Air re-circulation is active (LED turned "ON" at the re-circulation switch)
  5. AC compressor is activated (LED turned "ON" at the compressor switch)
  6. Maximum blower speed is selected (and maintained as long as function is active) on both sides.
IMPORTANT: The IHKA "MAX A/C" function operates only when the outside temperature exceeds 60°F (15°C). The system switches over to recirculated air mode. In this mode, air will only stream from the center ventilation grille at maximum capacity.

The "REST" function (heating of the vehicle while the engine is switched off) is still available with the new IHKA module. The following conditions have to be met for "REST" feature activation:

  1. Ignition switched OFF, or in position 1 (KL R)
  2. "MAX A/C" button pressed
  3. Outside temperature below 60°F
  4. Coolant temperature above 170°F
  5. Battery voltage above 11.4V
  6. Function is active up to 15 minutes after ignition was turned off.

The IHKA SW17.0 module with "MAX A/C" function provides great customer benefit by allowing them to set the air conditioning system more conveniently.

However, as a running production change, it is not intended to be used for "upgrading of customer vehicles" under the BMW New Car Limited warranty.
