51 41... Repair solution for faulty latch mechanism on support for inside door handle (handle recess removed)

When working on trim panel components, make sure that the sensitive surfaces are not scratched or damaged.

Removing the handle recess is described in removing door trim panel  . See 51 42 000 REMOVE AND INSTALL LEFT OR RIGHT REAR DOOR TRIM PANEL  or 51 41 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL .

NOTE: Shown removed here for purposes of clarity.

Procedure for faulty latch mechanisms (2) on support for inside door handle (3).

Repair kit consists of repair clip with screw, top (1) and repair clip, bottom (2).

Repair solution for broken top latch mechanism 

Remove remains of latch mechanism (1) flush to edge of opening (2).

NOTE: Do not permit remains of latch mechanism (1) to drop inside (avoidance of noises).

Seat repair clip (1) on support for inside door handle.

Only if no hole for support for inside door handle: 

Drill dia. 3.2 -0.2 mm hole (2) (do not damage repair clip in the process).

Install screw to secure repair clip (1).

Tightening torque 51 41 4AZ .

Repair solution for broken bottom latch mechanism 

Remove remains of latch mechanism (1) flush to edge of opening (2).

NOTE: Do not permit remains of latch mechanism (1) to drop inside (avoidance of noises).

First press repair clip (1) into opening of support at top, then engage correctly at bottom.
