Inertia Reel With Child Seat Function: Notes
One automatic reel is installed in each front seat backrest.
The automatic reel has two independent blocking systems for the seat belt locking reel.
One blocking system blocks the automatic reel in the case of extreme cornering, steep inclination (including rollover), hard braking or crashing. In this system, controlling is carried out by means of an electrically activated lifting magnet rather than as has been the case up to now on a mechanical basis by means of a ball that deflects a rocker arm.
A sensor detects the vehicle inclination and the acceleration. The sensor is integrated in the automatic reel control electronics. the automatic reel control electronics activates the two lifting magnets. This means that the Personal Profile of the front seat backrest does not affect the seat belt locking reel. Reason: There is a legal requirement for the vehicle inclination from which onwards the seat belt locking reel must activate.
The second blocking system is an additional safety facility and is controlled as has been the case up to now by centrifugal force (seismic mass). That means: If the seat belt is pulled out jerkily, the automatic reel blocks.
Using the child seat function, it is possible to permanently activate the seat belt locking reel in the automatic reel on the passenger side. This means that you can pull out the seat belt from the automatic reel in one go to fasten the seat belt of an infant seat. After this, the seat belt locking reel blocks the automatic reel. You can only roll up the seat belt. The seat belt locking reel does not release the automatic reel again until the automatic reel has rolled up a specific length of seat belt. You can pull out the seat belt again.
