SERVICE INFORMATION
SUBJECT
Service Action: Program Control Units (DME)
SITUATION
Due to less than optimal DME characteristic map data, cold engine starting performance could be unsatisfactory, leading to a customer complaint.
CAUSE
Unfavorable DME software
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves certain F01 and F02 vehicles with the N54 engine produced from April 2010 to June 2012.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 635 . If code number 635 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 635 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
PROCEDURE
Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.48.1 or a more recent version.
Target integration level: F001-12-11-502
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 635 . After the vehicle has been checked and/or corrected, obtain a label (SD 92-417) and:
- Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
- Punch out code number 635 (2), printed on the label; and
- Affix the label to the B-pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
