32 31 090 Removing and refitting/replacing steering column

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Move steering column into "extended" position.
• Remove STEERING COLUMN SHROUD , bottom.
• Remove TRIM PANEL FOR PEDAL MECHANISM .
• Remove STEERING COLUMN SWITCH CLUSTER .
• Replacement only: Remove GEAR SELECTOR SWITCH .

Release clamping bolt (1) on steering shaft at steering column (2), bottom.

Tightening torque 32 31 4AZ .

Undo nuts (3) at bottom of steering column.

Tightening torque 32 31 1AZ .

Secure steering column against falling out.

Undo nuts (1) at top of steering column.

Tightening torque 32 31 1AZ .

After installation: 

• Turn steering wheel in both directions to the limit position. The airbag indicator light must not light up!
