Functional description: Notes

The following functions are described for the High version of the roof function center:

• Front interior lighting

  The front interior light is automatically activated by the footwell module (FRM), the front electronics module (FEM) or the Body Domain Controller (BDC). In the roof function center the provided voltage supply provided is only looped through. The interior light can be switched on or off manually using the interior light button in the roof function center.

• Front reading lamps

  The reading lights are supplied with voltage by the footwell module (FRM), the front electronic module (FEM) or the Body Domain Controller (BDC). In the roof function center the provided voltage supply provided is only looped through. Pressing the corresponding button activates the selected reading lamp.

• Rear reading lights

  The rear reading lamps are supplied with voltage by the roof function center. Depending on the button signals (on or off) from the buttons for the rear reading light, the supply for the rear reading lights is provided via an electronic component in the roof function center.

• Front ambient lighting

  The front ambient lighting is single-colored or two-colored, depending on model series, model year and vehicle equipment.

  • Single-colored lighting

    The 2 LEDs for the ambient light are activated directly via the footwell module (FRM), the front electronic module (FEM) or the Body Domain Controller (BDC).

  • Two-colored lighting

    In the case of two-colored lighting, two LEDs are fitted in the LED carrier. The footwell module (FRM), the front electronic module (FEM) or the body domain controller (BDC) activate the LED via the locator lighting, the other LED is activated via terminal 58g_2.

    The color for the ambient lighting can be selected in the central information display using the controller. The brightness of the ambient lighting can also be adjusted in the central information display using the controller.

    The brightness can also be adjusted via the dimmer on the light switch. However, in contrast to adjustment in the central information display, the interior lighting and the ambient lighting are simultaneously dimmed in the process.

• Rear ambient lighting

  The rear ambient lighting is single-colored or two-colored, depending on model series, model year and vehicle equipment.

  • Single-colored lighting

    The 2 LEDs for the ambient light are activated directly via the footwell module (FRM), the front electronic module (FEM) or the Body Domain Controller (BDC). In the roof function center the provided voltage supply provided is only looped through.

  • Two-colored lighting

    In the case of two-colored lighting, two LEDs are fitted in the LED carrier. The footwell module (FRM), the front electronic module (FEM) or the body domain controller (BDC) activate the LED via the locator lighting, the other LED is activated via terminal 58g_2.

• Ambient lighting with bus connection (LIN bus)

  Depending on the series and vehicle equipment the lights of the ambient lighting are activated and supplied with power via the LIN bus from the Body Domain Controller (BDC). In rest state the Body Domain Controller (BDC) switches off the supply voltage.

  The lights communicate with the Body Domain Controller (BDC) via the LIN bus. The lights have been connected in series at the LIN bus. Each light is assigned a certain address. The address identifies the light from which the Body Domain Controller (BDC) receives a fault message.

• Indicator lamp for front passenger airbag deactivation

  The Crash Safety Module (ACSM) activates the indicator light for the passenger airbag deactivation directly. In the roof function center, the indicator light for the emergency call button is connected to terminal 30B. When the indicator light lights up, the front passenger airbag is deactivated.

• Activating the emergency call button with emergency call LED

  The emergency call button with emergency call LED is directly connected to the telephone control unit. In the roof function center, the emergency call button with emergency call LED is connected to terminal 31E.

  Triggering an emergency call:

  • Touch the covering flap of the emergency call button and open it.
  • Press the emergency call button until the emergency call LED lights up. The connection is established.
  • When the emergency call LED flashes, the connection has been established.

  The manual emergency call can be cancelled within 5 seconds.

• Slide/tilt sunroof

  The function of the slide/tilt sunroof control unit has been integrated into the FZD control unit. If the FZD control unit receives a request from the sliding/tilting sunroof switch for the sliding/tilting sunroof, it activates the electric motors. The electric motors are supplied with voltage (terminal 30) via a relay integrated in the roof function center.

  There are 2 Hall effect sensors integrated in each of the two electric motors for the slide/tilt sunroof drive. These hall effect sensors monitor the engine revolutions. The Hall effect sensor signals are forwarded to the FZD control unit. The Hall effect sensor signals indicate to the FZD control unit the position of the slide/tilt sunroof and of the sliding trim. In addition, the closing speed of the slide/tilt sunroof is used to calculate the closing power in the control unit. The required mechanical force varies as a function of ambient temperature and as a result of ageing processes. Consequently, the required closing force and the pressure-sensitive anti-trap mechanism are adjusted each time the sunroof closes.

  When the exterior lights are switched on, the footwell module (FRM), the front electronic module (FEM) or the Body Domain Controller (BDC) delivers a pulse-width modulated signal for the brightness value of the locator lighting (terminal 58g) in the slide/tilt sunroof switch to the FZD control unit via the K-CAN2.

  Safety functions 

  • Maximum motor running time

    If the motor running time for one direction exceeds a certain time, the FZD control unit switches the drive off.

  • Overheating protection

    Heating of the electric motors is calculated continuously on the basis of the measured ambient temperature as well as the operating period by means of a thermal model in the FZD control unit.

    The available temperature signal is the ambient temperature (via K-CAN). There is also a temperature sensor on the circuit board of the FZD control unit. As of a certain temperature threshold, the FZD control unit switches off the slide/tilt sunroof drive.

  • Locking protection

    If the Hall impulses from the electric motor fail to arrive for longer than 500 milliseconds, the FZD control unit switches off the slide/tilt sunroof drive.

• Alarm system

  The anti-theft alarm system (DWA) monitors the contacts on the doors, the luggage compartment lid and the engine bonnet as well as the status of the tilt sensor and the interior monitoring:

  The anti-theft alarm system consists of the ultrasonic interior movement detector (USIS) with ultrasonic interior sensors and the siren with tilt alarm sensor. The alarm sensor (integrated in the siren) monitors the vehicle inclination. The tilt sensor detects whether the vehicle is lifted or towed.

  The siren with tilt alarm sensor is connected via the LIN bus with the FZD control unit.

  The software of the anti-theft alarm system (DWA) is integrated in the FZD control unit. This means the FZD control unit controls anti-theft alarm system.

  The DWA alarm is acoustic and visual. When a DWA alarm is triggered, the roof function center control unit activates the loudspeakers of the siren via the LIN bus. Simultaneously, the FZD control unit sends an alarm signal as a message on the K-CAN2. The footwell module (bus user on the K-CAN2) activates the optical alarm via the lighting system.

  The anti-theft alarm can be encoded on a country-dependent basis, e.g. the visual alarm activation (with hazard warning flashers; with low-beam headlights; with high beams etc.) and the duration of alarm (interval: 1 time; 3 times, etc.).

  The FZD control unit receives the following status signals via the K-CAN2:

  • from the footwell module (FRM), front electronics module (FEM) or Body Domain Controller (BDC) - the status of the doors
  • from the Car Access System (CAS), front electronic module (FEM) or Body Domain Controller (BDC) - the status of the front compartment lid
  • The tailgate status from the junction box electronics (JBE), the rear electronic module (REM) or the Body Domain Controller (BDC)

  The anti-theft alarm LED is activated directly by the FZD control unit.

  The line connection is monitored with the LIN bus. In cycles, the FZD control unit sends a request via the LIN bus to monitor the line connection to the siren with tilt alarm sensor. If the response fails to come within a certain time, the FZD control unit triggers a DWA alarm. Monitoring of the line is also active during alarm activation.
