Precondition
The control unit was replaced./Programming based on instructions from ISTA diagnosis./Programming due to Technical Campaign.
NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
With the introduction of ISTA 4, the programming functionality was integrated into ISTA.
To avoid errors during programming/coding, the current ISTA/P or ISTA 4 version must be used.
For programming, the programming data must also be installed for ISTA 4.

- The following series can be treated with ISTA/P: Exx series and RR1, RR2, RR3
- The following series can be treated with ISTA 4: Fxx, Gxx, Ixx series and following

Battery voltage must not drop below 13.0 V during programming. Only use battery chargers recommended by BMW for low-voltage vehicle electrical systems.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
No high-voltage switch off is required in electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles for programming/coding.
The high-voltage system is switched off automatically by the programming system.

- Programming with ISTA P
- Connect the battery charger to the vehicle.
- Connect the programming system with the vehicle.
- Connect the ICOM vehicle interface to the workshop network via a LAN cable. Check cable routing (do not route cables through open side windows).
- Turn on the ignition or activate testing-analysis-diagnosis (PAD) before connecting the ICOM vehicle interface to the vehicle.
- Start ISTA session.
- Determine the action plan.
- Accept and fully process the action plan.
- Wait until programming/coding has been completed.
- Depending on the reworking list, carrying out an ISTA diagnosis session if necessary
- Disconnect the programming system from the vehicle.
- Disconnect the battery charger from the vehicle.

- Connect the battery charger to the vehicle.
- Connect the programming system with the vehicle.
- Connect the ICOM vehicle interface to the workshop network via a LAN cable. Check cable routing (do not route cables through open side windows).
- Turn on the ignition or activate testing-analysis-diagnosis (PAD) before connecting the ICOM vehicle interface to the vehicle.
- Start ISTA session.
- Determine the action plan.
- Accept and fully process the action plan.
- Wait until programming/coding has been completed.
- Dependency of the reworking list, change to diagnosis if necessary.
- Disconnect the ISTA workshop system from the vehicle.
- Disconnect the battery charger from the vehicle.
