Installing the exchange transfer case

Damage to the transmission
Damage to the transmission due to unapproved transmission oil

Use only the approved transmission oil. Please see approved BMW Fluid Capacities tab for the selected vehicle.
Check the transmission oil level after completing the repair

Replacement transmissions come filled with oil

Collect and dispose of emerging fluids. Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations

Vehicle programming/coding must be performed after installation

Remount covers and protective caps
Remove the transportation retainer of the drive shaft. Remount the vent hose from the transfer case
Make note of transmission identification (see BMW Group parts sales and nameplate)

Encode/program control unit(s)

Precondition

The control unit was replaced

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Use the most recent software version to prevent faults during programming/coding
The battery voltage must not fall below 13.0 V during programming
Use only chargers for a low volt-vehicle electrical system that are recommended by BMW

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
No high-voltage switch off is required in electric vehicles or hybrid vehicles for programming/coding
The high-voltage system will be automatically switched off by the programming system
Exception:

Connect the battery charger to the vehicle (activity not included in the flat rate unit)
Connect the programming system with the vehicle. Determine the action plan
Accept and fully process the action plan
Depending on the reworking list, connect the workshop system to the vehicle if necessary
Carry out vehicle test

Delete the fault memory
Note the information on programming in the workshop system and the relevant information in the user documentation
Wait until programming/coding has been completed
Disconnect the programming system from the vehicle
Disconnect the battery charger from the vehicle
