Code 14 - Abs Enable Relay Contact Circuit Open: Notes

Ignition voltage is supplied through ABS enable relay. EBCM/EBTCM energizes pull-in coil by completing ground circuit at EBCM/EBTCM ABS relay control terminal. Magnetic field created will close ABS enable relay contacts to supply battery voltage to EBCM/EBTCM, providing power to motors and solenoids.

Code 14 can be set anytime after EBCM/EBTCM commands ABS enable relay on. This test checks availability of current/voltage to motors and solenoids. Code 14 indicates voltage is not available, and ABS operation is not possible. When a malfunction code is stored, ABS is disabled and ABS warning light illuminated.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart. Use only 10-megohm (minimum) DVOM for all voltage and resistance tests. For identification of circuits and terminals referenced in charts and text, see WIRING DIAGRAM  .

  1. Checks if Code 16 is also set as current or history. If Code 16 is present, proceed to that chart first.
  2. Verifies if malfunction is currently present.
  3. Verifies ABS enable relay can be turned on and provide voltage to EBCM/EBTCM.
  4. Checks for high resistance in switched battery input circuit from ABS enable relay to EBCM/EBTCM.
  5. Checks for high resistance in switched battery circuit from battery to ABS enable relay.
  6. Verifies condition of ABS enable relay.
  7. Checks for poor terminal contact or corrosion at connectors.
  8. Determines if EBCM/EBTCM is the cause of malfunction.
