Cs144 (5.7L)

  1. Scribe end frames to facilitate reassembly. Remove through-bolts and separate end frames. Remove stator lead attaching nuts and remove stator.
  2. Using ohmmeter, check for grounds between any stator lead and stator frame. See Fig 1. Ohmmeter should indicate infinite resistance. If reading is not infinity, replace stator. CS series generators are equipped with delta stator windings and cannot be checked for opens or shorts using ohmmeter. A noticeable discoloration anywhere on the stator usually indicates stator failure.
  3. To reassemble generator, reverse disassembly procedure. Retain brushes with brush retaining pin during reassembly. See Figure. Remove retaining pin after tightening through-bolts.
