Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue, and 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the radiator mounts.

  2. Install the radiator.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the radiator mounting brackets and bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  4. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipes.

    Important:  Install new retaining rings into the quick connect fittings.

  5. Ensure the following procedures are performed when installing the new retaining ring onto the fitting.

  6. Hook one of the open ends of the retaining ring in one of the slots in the quick connect fitting.

  7. Rotate the retaining ring around the fitting until the retaining ring is positioned with all three ears through the three slots on the fitting.

    Important:  Do NOT push the new retaining ring onto the fitting.

  8. Installing the retaining ring on to the fitting this way will bend the retaining ring.

  9. Ensure that the three retaining ring ears are seen from inside the fitting and that the retaining ring moves freely in the fitting slots.

  10. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipes into the radiator quick connect fitting.

  11. Insert the transaxle oil cooler pipe ends into the quick connect fitting until you hear or feel a click.

  12. Do not use the plastic cap on the transaxle oil cooler pipe in order to install the transaxle oil cooler pipe into the fitting.
  13. Pull back sharply on the transaxle oil cooler pipe in order to ensure that the transaxle oil cooler pipe is fastened into the quick connect fitting.

  14. Position the plastic cap onto the fitting. Do not manually depress the retaining ring when installing the plastic cap onto the quick connect fitting.
  15. Fully seat the plastic cap against the fitting.

  16. Allow no gap between the cap and the fitting.

  17. Ensure that the yellow identification band on the tube is hidden within the quick connect fitting. A hidden yellow identification band indicates proper joint seating.
    NOTE: Do NOT overfill the transaxle. The overfilling of the transaxle causes foaming, loss of fluid, shift complaints, and possible damage to the transaxle.
  18. Adjust the fluid level.
  19. Install the cooling fan shroud. Refer to Cooling Fan Replacement - Electric .

  20. Connect the inlet hose to the radiator.
  21. Use J 38185  in order to install the inlet hose clamp to the radiator.
  22. Install the LH diagonal brace. Refer to BRACE REPLACEMENT - SHEET METAL DIAGONAL in Body Front End.
  23. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.

  24. Connect the outlet hose to the radiator.
  25. Install the outlet hose clamp to the radiator using the J 38185  .
  26. Install the lower air baffle. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle and Deflector Replacement - Lower .
  27. Lower the vehicle.
  28. Install the engine mount strut bracket from the upper radiator support.
  29. Install the battery. Refer to BATTERY REPLACEMENT in Engine Electrical.
  30. Fill the cooling system with engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
