Side Blind Spot Alert System Components
The side blind spot alert system is made up of the following components:
- Advanced parking assist control module
- Parking aid side sensors
- Outside rearview mirrors
Advanced Parking Assist Control Module
The advanced parking assist control module provides an 8 V reference and a low reference to the two object alarm sensors located in the bumper on the left and right side of the vehicle from speeds of 10 km/h (6.2 MPH) up to 140 km/h (87 MPH). The advanced parking assist control module receives individual signals from each of the two sensors and determines the location and distance of a vehicle in the side blind zone based on these inputs. When an object is detected in the side blind zone, the advanced parking assist control module will illuminate the visual indicator on the accordant side rear view mirror.
Parking Aid Side Sensors
The parking aid side sensors are located in both sides of the rear bumper. The sensors are used to determine the distance between an object and the bumper. Each sensor emits an ultrasonic frequency which is reflected off any object located beside the vehicle. These reflections are received by the sensors. The time difference between the emission of the frequency and when the reflection is received is known as sensor ring time, it is used to determine the distance to the object. The sensors report this information to the advanced parking assist control module.
Outside Rearview Mirrors
The side blind zone alert indicators in the outside rearview mirrors are activated if the parking aid side sensors detect a vehicle in the side blind zone to inform the driver that there is a vehicle driving in the blind spot zone.
