Code P097, Park/Neutral-To-Drive/Reverse At High Throttle: Notes

This test is to detect the vehicle transaxle being placed in gear under conditions that may cause damage to vehicle powertrain or create an unsafe condition. Code P097 will set if such a condition exists, and engine power will be reduced by disabling fuel to individual cylinder.

Primary purpose of this code is to detect an action of the driver that could cause an unsafe condition or damage to vehicle. Code can be driver induced by shifting from Park or Neutral to Drive or Reverse with a throttle angle of 20 degrees or greater. Fuel injectors No. 2,3,5 and 8 will be disabled when code sets. Check TP sensor for proper operation. Fuel injectors will not be enabled until throttle position switch is closed, or throttle angle is less than 3 degrees and vehicle speed is 8 MPH or less.
