Pedestrian Alert Operation
Due to the lack of audible engine noise, hybrid and electric vehicles are very quiet at low speeds. The pedestrian alert system emits an audible sound at speeds less than 12 mph (20 km/h) to alert pedestrians that the vehicle is approaching. The sound will fade in and out and vary in pitch depending on vehicle speed. The K132 Pedestrian Alert Sound Control Module is supplied with B+ and ground. It communicates using serial data. The module outputs a signal to the P48 Pedestraian Alert Sound Speaker.
The automatic sound is generated to indicate the vehicle presence to pedestrians. The sound changes if the vehicle is speeding up or slowing down. It is activated when the vehicle is shifted into a forward gear or R (Reverse), up to 12 mph (20 km/h).
To manually sound the pedestrian safety signal: Pull the turn signal lever all the way toward you momentarily. The high-beam headlamps and indicator light will turn on, and a soft-note alert will momentarily sound.
