Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

The Engine Control Module (ECM) used with this vehicle in located under the instrument panel. For service, the ECM is replaced as a complete unit. There are no serviceable parts in the ECM. Unlike previous ECMs, there are NO removeable PROMs or MEM-CALs. The calibrations are stored in the ECM in the Electronically Erasable Programable Read Only Memory (EEPROM).

WARNING: When replacing the ECM, it will be necessary to program the EEPROM of the new ECM. Specialized equipment is used at the Dealer to program the ECM.
Ensure you have the correct re-programming equipment before you replace the ECM. Follow tool manufacturers instructions.

REMOVAL OR DISCONNECT
- Battery ground cable.
- Interior access panel.
- Connectors from ECM.


INSTALL OR CONNECT
- New ECM.
- ECM connectors to ECM.
- Battery ground cable.
- Interior access panel.
- Proceed with EEPROM programming.

REPROGRAM EEPROM
- Follow tool manufacturers procedure.
