Wipers Do Not Operate In Any Mode

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1997 Buick Regal, and 1997 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect wiper switch 48-pin connector. Connector is located behind instrument panel on right side of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect test light between ground and Yellow wire at wiper switch wiring harness connector. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, replace fuse and/or repair open wire between wiper switch connector and instrument panel fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  2. Disconnect wiper motor 3-pin connector. Connect test light between battery voltage and Black wire terminal of 3-pin connector. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, repair open in Black wire between wiper motor connector and ground location at left front frame rail.
  3. Reconnect wiper switch connector. Disconnect wiper motor 6-pin connector. Connect test light between ground and Dark Green wire at wiper motor 6-pin wiring harness connector. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, check for open in Dark Green wire. Repair as necessary. If Dark Green wire is okay, replace wiper switch.
  4. Turn wiper switch to low position. Connect test light between ground and Gray wire at wiper motor 6-pin wiring harness connector. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, check for open in Gray wire. Repair as necessary. If Gray wire is okay, replace wiper switch.
  5. Check continuity of Yellow wire between 3-pin and 6-pin wiper motor connectors. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Yellow wire. If continuity exists, check for poor wiring connection at wiper motor. Repair as necessary. If connection is okay, replace wiper motor assembly.
