Charging System Check

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, diagnose charge indicator light or circuit. If charge indicator light illuminates, turn ignition to start. If engine cranks, go to next step. If starter solenoid does not click or starter solenoid clicks, but engine does not crank, diagnose starter. See STARTER article.
  2. Start engine. Check battery voltage after 5-7 minutes. If charging system voltage is 13-16 volts and charge indicator light or voltmeter is operating properly, check is complete. If battery is undercharged or overcharged, go to BATTERY UNDERCHARGED OR OVERCHARGED.
